Like Jeff I just leave the scenery tester active all the time but just to eliminate one more entry in the FSX Scenery Library I place the 'tester' .bgl in the scenery sub-folder of the Annette Island Fly-in and it always is active as long as Annett Island is running.

I usually untick scenery that I rarely use in order to take unnecessary processor and memory load off of the the sim. I have a lot of scenery areas in my library that I rarely need and unticking them will make a marked difference in the loading time. Why load it into memory if you have no intentions or need of using it? Just my 2 cents.

Are you talking just initial loading time?Once all scenery is loaded does it effect the performance etc?

Both initial and flight loading times. Doesn't affect performance, just load times as far as I can tell. The Scenery Config Editor lets you group your scenery which you can switch on or off at your discretion, making the activate/deactivate process simple and quick.

Hi all,

The scenery tester should be disabled when not using it.  Reason:  It does add a slight load to the object rendering system.  The general radius of frame rate impact from a rendered object is 30 nautical miles.   In other words, once you are 30 nm away from an object, it pretty much doesn't load the system anymore.  Since PAKT (busiest scenery area in PFJ) is only 19 nm from PANT, I would keep it disabled unless I wanted to do a scenery check.

My two cents.

This all seems like sound advice to me, so I will comply.

In addition to turning off the scenery tester I am also disabling the Annette Island Fly-in and my powerboat regatta (which is obsolete) scenery since they are "events" which only happen occasionally, not all the time.  ;)

Also, if you have the scenery tester activated, I believe you would see the tester objects if you ever flew to Annette Island in the future. Gives you a lot more options for lodging, but de-activate it when not using it.

OK<I have been using the Scenery Cinfig. utility and it is helping. My only concern is when I switch back to default from FTX all the FTX scenery is still listed in the scenery library, but not activated.Normally the scenery goes away and comes back when I switch back to FTX.Is this correct? Thanks,Ron

I just had the scenery config all set up and working perfectly.Using it to switch back and forth from default to Orbx wax fine except as stated above the Orbx scenery remained in the library unchecked when going back to default. Then I used the Orbx Configuretor(SP?) and lost all my groups in the scenery config.utility.Is it OK to use the scenery config utility to switch back and forth instead of the Orbx one? Thanks,Ron

Ron,
not sure exactly what or how your switching FSX but using the FTX Central to switch regions does not uncheck anything in the FSX Scenery Library.  It turns files within the ORBX folder of FSX on and off nothing in the FSX Scenery Library is unchecked.
