So many of our scenery locations are "dark" at night because we usually fly during the daytime VFR, so night flights are not practical. However, if you get down on the water in the boats, then there's a new experience awaiting you. My favorite time in a "real' boat is night time, cruise slowing. One of the features I put into Owikeno Lake is night lighting, especially for boaters ... for for those eagles who dare, a real treat is in store for night flying.
On the west end of the lake, if you park off shore, you can easily see the lights of the Casino, the West Fishing Village, the Ferry Dock and Brad's BBQ (and the airport). There is a road connecting the Casino to the airport and to the Ferry Dock (about 5 miles) ... all of this is lit with street lights that sparkle from the air, and you can see them from the water. On the East end of the lake is Machmel Village ... all lit up at night ... fun to "drive" through the village at night. And there are street lights on the road I created to connect the village to the East Ferry and Transportation docks. You can literally take an automobile at night from the Casino, to the ferry dock, take the ferry, get dropped off at the East Dock, then drive into Machmel village ... and you can do it all at night.
Night lighting is an option for the designer. Mostly there is no need for it, as stated above. But for the boaters, it can be a new experience. If you take the Owikeno Boat tour, you'll find there are navigation markers that blink red and green that I've placed at critical locations so you can find them at night. Using the GPS/NAV stack (Boating/Tools) to help you, and seeing the night beacons ... it is a real treat. Watch out for the ferry boat and the 2 megayachts and the Capt's Fishing Boat ... they are all active at night ... but they also are all lit up so you can see them coming.
I'll bet almost none of our folks here have noticed the night lighting. But for those who want to try it, here's another new experience.
