HOW CAN I RECOVER A FLIGHT IN CIGAR BOX
« on: August 16, 2023, 08:34:16 AM »
Under the recovery tab drop down menu there is an option to save a flight. But, the Load option is grayed out. How do I load a recovery flight? Thanks.

If you have saved a flight. (Has to be in the air and above 1500ft .. then you go into the recovery tab and load that saved flight .. to continue it.. but again you have to save a flight first then select that saved file to be able to recover and continue it.

Thanks, Rich,
The recovery module is set to automatically record flights every few minutes. Where would I look to find those flights..I.e. where is the storage folder located and what is it called?

As always, you are the man…🙏

Not home right now sure but the safe flights directory maybe in your cigar box installation folder in a subfolder called saved flights. I can't confirm as I am not home to confirm my install. But easy way to check is to fly a flight and during the flight force a manual save of the flight by hitting the recovery tab and save flight. Then open the recovery tab again to load a saved flight and the folder or directory will be shown as the saved folder opens in a new window.

If you use the above process then you should be able to establish the folder where you're saved flights are saved .. and that is the same folder where you can load a flight in progress. The name of the flight saved is the MFC flight number as is generated from the site or has inputted into the flight number field in cigar box if flying a single flight leg or hi a custom charter flight.

Hope that helps for now?

If I'm not mistaken saved flights .xml files are in

Documents/FS Products/Cigar Box/pirep

or ..../pirep-backup

Thanks Karl..

Also Sherman, think is better to disable auto save (in recovery settings) and only save (periodically) during a flight.
This will reduce any auto save pauses and eliminate any unnecessary saved files. After filing a pirep you can delete any old saved files.

Thanks Norm and Karl

I have the recovery mode working following your suggestions.
I have been trying to begin the Petersburg exploration. My problem began after my first attempt to land at SRC3 in real wx from AS. Low cloud cover made it all but impossible to find the narrow strip…bottom line, I crashed and scrubbed the cigar box session.
After your instructions I tried a second time…better wx but I came in too high…this aircraft repair is getting expensive..😅.
Now a thought occurs to me. Is it legal to pick up a flight enroute using a recovery xml rather than restarting the entire flight?
Thanks for your good counsel…

I checked... it is folder "save" in the "Cigar Box" folder.

Well Sherman, that wasn't the intent for sure but if necessary for those very bad landings and don't want to refly but please sparingly and go easy on our planes! Crash landings are usually fatal!!
