Alastair Lake
« on: June 15, 2011, 12:54:35 PM »
Hi Guys,
I visited yesterday evening the new scenery at Alastair Lake with my littlebird.
I came in on lowlevel from Prince-Rupert following the Skeena River.
When passing Brad`s Baid & BBQ I turned right following the little river to the Alastair Lake and finally landing on the Heli-Pad (...thanks for adding!!!).

I used this Flight for my doing my first video:

Wow, this is really an awesome scenery!!Brad`s BBQ looks great and the Alastair Lake location is really awesome. There are lots of things to explore. And the Boulders in the river look excellent!!!!!!!!! Thank you

Wunderschön! Well done, Klaus! You certainly know how to handle a chopper.  I have no trouble moving forward but I always have the devil of a time keeping the damn thing low enough, especially in a combat sim.  Not exactly stealthy coming in at 1000'! I intend to get Nemeth's MBB eventually and maybe, with some proper controllers, I'll finally get the hang of it.  Still looks weird flying from the left seat, though.

Cheers,
Mike

Just as an afterthought...you certainly wouldn't die of thirst if you went down out there!

Thank you Klaus ... I don't fly heli's (I may have to try again) ... so that vid was a special treat for me ... nice touch on the landing ... the last time I tried to land one, there were sparks and lots of noise .. (reset!!!).  Thanks for the great vid ... I'll put it up in the Gallery.

Thanks Mike!
I use the Saitek X52 Set + Saitek Pedals. They work quite good and you can do some cheatings to fit them for choppers. If you are interested in chopperflying and configuring FSX (Sensitive FSX Settings are important)+ Hardware (Joystick+Pedals+Throttle) for it try www.hovercontrol.com. ;)

I also recommend helicoptertotalrealism HTR. IT`s a small external Programm which add`s some choppertypical Flightdynamics like Torque induced Yaw and others. FSX can`t simulate these dynamics.

Flying the MD500 from left seat is weird when first trying.  ;DBut the realworld civil MD500 are lefty`s.

Hi, Klaus

I already downloaded the Hovercontrol stuff a while ago, in preparation, and I've pretty well decided on Saitek for new controllers in any case, particularly for the rudder pedals.  My usual joystick is a Saitek Evo and it's been pretty good so far.  Just need to get FSX up and running!  :( It's taking longer than expected to purchase my new computer.

Nice video Klaus.  I like to fly the choppers too, but your landing is exceptional.  Thanks for making a video, and keep making more!!  That was impressive, almost 15 minutes of video at 1080p resolution.  Pretty good start, for a first video.  Keep it up.

Klaus,
your first video is great! Thanks for sharing.
I would be happy if I could handle/fly the helicopter this way.

Dieter

Well, when you think all is well and you are taxiing out to your favorite runway, don't look up.  Because that's me in the Robinson taking the helicopter training course, and what you would see is not a pretty thing! I flew through the training gates ... then it was time to lean to land.  Heck that's easy! I watched Klaus' video, piece of cake .... just reduce throttle and pull back on the stick a little (which results in flying backwards tail first into the ground at accelerated speed).  But again, just keep on taxiing, enjoy the beautiful day, pay no attention to the helicopter out there in the grass looking like a lawn dart. It's just Doug learning to fly a helicopter ...but he's ok, he's got "crash" off!

Thanks for the kind words, Guys! I`m glad you like it! :)
I will do more video`s! ....and believe me, 15 minutes 1080p HD took hours for upload... If I`d known that before I didn`t do it .... ;D

Doug,
Did youadjust your contollerresponse and neutral position in the Joystickcalibration menu in FSX. It`S important to pull the sensitive slider the whole way to the right and adjust no Nullzones to your controlleraxes (slider neutral the whole left)?...watch the screenie below...
Only do very slight movements with your joystick (cyclic) and throttle (collective)...or you will feel like a bullrider! ;D
