WHY IS PORT ALICE ON DRY LAND?
« on: June 01, 2022, 12:42:34 PM »
Planning a T&G at 16k, I had to abort because instead of a water runway, there was only dry land. I have ORBX products, LC, AK scenery sets, etc...
Other RTMM bases that I have flown into our out of look fine...

Any ideas to fix this are appreciated. Thanks

Sherm

There could be a 3rd part mesh or scenery that masking the water or one of the scenery pieces interfering in that land class! (you use P3Dv5.3 as I recall).
Try turn off scenery pieces to try to isolate the scenery that is causing the problem. Suspected it's not RTMM. Might also check your scenery order that the layering is correct (*Tongass Fjords has to be correct).

(Correct scenery order shown for P3Dv5 is in the attached pic..)

Hi Norm,
working on scenery order placement...
While scanning files in Lorby's I could not find Port Alice listed within the RTMM scenery files. Should there be one, and could that be the problem?

Wow a month in France..Tres bien Sherm!!  Welcome Back.

There is no scenery for Port Alice SPB Alaska (16K) in RTMM but there is in the Tongass Fjords scenery add-on: three of them: they are all in the Higher Priority Folder: (File names as below:)
- AF2_FSX_TF_16K_Port_Alice_SPB.BGL
- TF_FSX_objects_towns_PortAlice.BGL
- TF_FSX_SPBs_and_marinas_PortAlice.BGL

PS: Be careful with Lorby, (and Orbx Centreal.. they have a habit of messing up the scenery layering, especially messing up Tongass position. Tongass has to be in correct position and the required 40 terrain entries have to correct in the P3D terrain.cfg file to correctly set the land and water classes for areas in the Tongass Fjords area. (40 terrain.cfg entries are attached to this post)

I guess I would check the terrain.cfg stuff (fix if necessary) then turn all scenery add-ons off except Tongass and try Port Alice again.(Tongass is it's own region so to speak=see attached pic).  Then if that is ok start adding scenery and check order to make sure all is layering correctly.. or find out which scenery is messing up the terrain.

For info: The pic below is how the three products -- Orbx South Central Alaska, Orbx Pacific Fjords, and Tongass Fjords X regions fit together.

Thanks Norm,
To my surprise, the Tongass entries are not in terrain.cfg. I cannot account for that because I remember adding them according to Poppet's guide at Avsim. So, I guess I will have to redo it...ho hum...I hope that will solve the problem.

Bingo! That was the problem

Missing terrain entries for Tongass would explain it. Glad that fixed it. 👍
