 8)  Cool.  The Orcas Island sunrise reminds me of when Mt. St. Helens blew her top.   ;) . . . or come to think of it, the California, Oregon, BC, and Washington wildfires will do that too.   :P

"Red sky at morning, sailor take warning."

Red sunrises always make me a little cringey.

Have you seen the Orbx Orcas Island scenery?

There is an addon for San Juan by LatinVFR. Don't know about the quqlity, though.

The LatinVFR offering is TJSJ, in Puerto Rico. The San Juan Islands in Brad's first picture are located between Seattle and Victoria, British Columbia.

The Spanish were wonderful explorers in the 16th-18th centuries, but they didn't test their imaginations very hard when it came to naming the places they found.

Juan De Fuca  ;)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Juan_de_Fuca
Quote
Ioannis Phokas (Greek: Ἰωάννης Φωκᾶς), better known by the Spanish translation of his name, Juan de Fuca (born 1536 on the Ionian island of Cefalonia; died there 1602[1][2]), was a Greek maritime pilot in the service of the King of Spain, Philip II. He is best known for his claim to have explored the Strait of Anián, now known as the Strait of Juan de Fuca, between Vancouver Island (now part of British Columbia, Canada) and the Olympic Peninsula (northwestern Washington state, United States).

HAHAHAHA! The ego of the guy, to call a place "Saint [insert own name here]!"

Juan de Fuca may have explored the strait that leads to the islands, but they weren't named until 1791, by the Spanish explorer Francisco de Eliza.

Juan was no saint.  Wouldn't "San Juan" mean "without John", not Saint John.   :-\
(edit) I looked it up.  It does translate to "Saint".   Now I know.   ;)

I get the feeling that Juan only saw the straits from a distance, and described them from that viewpoint.  He thought it was a northwest passage to the Atlantic.   :-[  Boy, was he wrong!  :o  They only go to Tacoma.   ;D

Add-on Scenery for PNW
« Reply #12 on: June 02, 2021, 11:34:13 AM »
There are lots of free, good (enough) quality and very familiar's for this area that are kind of nice to have for the PNW: (MSFS). Don't really have to spend $$$ to get some! 3rd party are killin' out there!! but still it's the sky and flying the terrain that is the real special in this sim.

Some of the PNW stuff include: Kenmore Air Harbor SPB (S60) to Packwood, to the famous Oras Island (KORS), Walter Sutton's (WA79), Roche Harbor (WA09), Westport (14S), Ranger Creek (21W), Forks (S18), Diamond Point (2WA1) Chelan (S10), Sequim Valley (W28) and of course the San Juan Islands too! But lots more as well:

Here are a couple of key sites for the PNW add-ons in case anyone missed them:

(https://flightsim.to/discover/washington), Oregon, etc
