Dispatch MS001 - An Experimental FS2020 Dispatch you can try
« on: April 12, 2021, 01:37:03 PM »
If you go to HOME/Activities/#8 and get to the DISPATCH (Manual), if you then click on the FS2020 dispatches button, you will see a new table and a single dispatch there ... MS001.  If you click on VIEW, then the dispatch comes up in your browser. At the top of it, you can download the Flight Plan that will take you from Ketchikan to Juneau at VFR 1200 feet (for bad weather flying...low and slow). There are instructions on the dispatch page for how to use a V2 (version 2) formatted Dispatch.

My weather wasn't too bad when I checked it out this morning ... UNTIL, I made the turn to Juneau, then a snowstorm hit me. I haven't flown a lot in FS2020, so this was a new experience and a little disconcerting! :-). For "fun" I put up four screenshots ... one of the storm in the distance, then the next three approaching and landing in it. Actually, NO problems.  So this dispatch can get you from Ketchikan to Juneau safely in ANY weather. When the weather is good, you don't need it, just fly higher and direct, but this solves a bad weather problem, which happens often up there.  It also gets you "down into" the scenery, which is really beautiful.

Let me know if you "fly" it. I had a lot of fun doing it. Be careful how you load the flight plan into FS2020, I outlined this in the NEWS NOTAM and there is a NOTAM just above the FS2020 table to help you, it is a little different from before with FSX/P3D.

Of course, we don't have any RTMM scenery locations yet, so these, for now, will only go from airport to airport with some nice POI's in-between.  If you have an airport-to-airport idea that would fly through some interesting terrain, let me know.

In the book "A bush pilot's story" from Lynn Wyatt he describes a flight he had to do in winter in bad weather in a Beaver from Sitka to Kake Village, extremely low over bays and passes. The route is described in detail.

This book is a good read anyway.

As a head's up, if you're flying this in the C172, expect it to take closer to 2 hours than 1:14. At 228 miles, you need a ground speed of more than 180 Kts to make the trip in 1:14.

I'll change that on the dispatch. Good catch.

Made the flight time change. Also added a VIMEO video at the bottom of the page to "show" people how to use these dispatches properly.

Time to get out the flight computer  E6B all the way.  All you have to do is to put in your actual airspeed and the actual distance and get the time.....I think all pilots start out with one and they are cheap!

Henry,

I needed a flying break this evening and flew the XCub in live weather as far as Wrangell, when I had to take a little crew rest. The weather was gorgeous, few clouds and a 1 KT wind from the south and a brisk 6 degrees C. The Zimovia Strait was packed with ice. Who says there are no seasons in MSFS?

This is a nice flight!

Edit: I originally posted that the ice pack was in the "Monrovia Strait." I don't know where that is, but it's not along this flight plan.

After the update, I've got problems. My Cub Amphibian is gone, the Skylark's buttons don't seem to do anything, I add a Flight Plan starting at a parking point, and I'm on the runway.  The day before yesterday everything was fine, now 2020 isn't doing so well. Going back to V5 for a while till Asobo figures out how to make a simulator.

My saved cockpit camera views are gone and behaviour of adjusting it changed to the worse. That was exactly my fear when I started to fly more and more in the new sim: that features I get used to are not present any more after an update.

I think I will also go back to P3D for a while. Hmmm.... not sure how long it will take Asobo to have a reliable sim. Maybe some time after the console version is released. I hope it's not too far away, because I still believe MSFS is the future.

DOUG, the update is working better than ever at my house. I am afraid after going back to P3Dv5 Monday, I may never fly P3D again.  Just doesn't cut it for VFR navigation by time, speed and distance.

After the update, I also had some oddities with my setups, specifically that my Bing Data World Graphics had been switched off, and cockpit tool tips had been switched on.

There is a known problem where mods in the community folder aren't recognized by the Content Manager, but apparently, those mods are still present and usable. (Asobo recommended that you remove the contents of your community folder before performing an update.) If you're missing something, reinstall it.

(Side note: for the XCub mods, Carbonprop issued an update to 1.6.1 for the 180HP variants, and 1.8.7 for the 215HP variant a few days ago, so I recommend grabbing those instead of reinstalling the older ones.)

Going back to P3D is not easy. Of course, flying a plane like the RealAir Duke in P3D is great. But Just Flight "just" released the next bug fix for the Arrow III. I have to take a look. I'm struggeling to get my camera views back, but well, the Arrow keeps me in MSFS.

After the update F9 (load pilot camera view) and Ctrl-F11 (save landing camera view) do not work anymore.

Also, if I go to the menu, to controls, and then back to the sim, the Throttle goes down.
