Weather for MSFS2020
« on: March 25, 2021, 06:33:22 PM »
As I have posted before, weather is one of those things that makes flying more realistic and sometimes means you can't fly (More on that in a minute.) While the live weather of MSFS is better than before, and better than most others sims, REX has a new weather program that plays to mostly poor reviews... But....there is a Free Weather insertion program for MSFS : Unweather
https://www.msfsaddon.com/2020/10/flight-simulator-2020-unreal-weather.html

The installation process is straight forward, You do have to register for a free API (to get the weather) and modify one file.  Don't use the instructions in the program ....use the U-Tube in the comments.

If anyone is interested, I will be happy to post a little tutorial....but it's not a biggie.......BUT

Using live weather has it's drawbacks, it's snowing at PAJN.  Now both live weather and Unweather are showing the same thing for the most part so only time and comparison flying will tell if this is any improvement or not....or you can load a preset and fly today.

Enjoy your next flight!

Today I tried to get from Stewart to Ketchikan with live weather. It was hopeless. Icing would have put me down. I changed season and weather, that saved me.

Not easy to fly with live weather.

But still, I'm interested in that addon, Henry.

That; the problem with real weather.   I am always torn....I like to enjoy the scenery, and I like reality when flying.

The solution is to fly in places with good weather.....LOL

I am liking the UnWeather

I have the impression that accumulation of ice making the aircraft unflyable happens way too fast. I'm no real world pilot, but when flying into clouds the aircraft is loosing altitude already after 15 seconds. No chance to prevent a crash. There is no possibility to climb through clouds just 2000 ft higher to clear the clouds.

(No anti-icing mod for the Arrow yet).

Karl you are quite right....ice happens fast.  I remember a flight IFR where I told center I had to get down because of ice and they didn't give me clearance down right a way and I had to call them saying I am out of 10000ft because I no longer cam maintain altitude...they got me down in a hurry and I remember ice flying off the prop on approach....it was not my finest flight!

But is reality and I noticed that my airspeed indicated quit on a flight just yesterday on MSFS and a little pitot heat did the trick....that realistic. Ice isn't good! :)
