Pausing CigarBox
« on: March 25, 2021, 06:06:00 PM »
Sometimes I need to pause CigarBox. Maybe my wife or my cat needs attention, have to do a phone call or smething else happens and I don't know how long it takes.

In P3D this is easy, I just press P and the sim is paused and CigarBox shows it and also pauses flight time. I then can bring up the menu, the sim is still paused as is CigarBox. The sim and CigarBox will only unpause if I press P again. As long as the sim is paused, rendering is stopped, heat goes away, fans go quiet.

Now, in MSFS the only way I found to pause the sim and CigarBox is to use the simulation pause in the developer menu. However, if I then press ESC CigarBox will unpause.
Even if the sim is paused, rendering will not be stopped.

Are there other findings?

When flying hit Esc and that stops the sim (and as well stops cigar box). Will test this tomorrow to make sure Karl.

Here pressing Pause/Break toggles active pause but does not pause CigarBox.

I agree it is not 100%
Some Bush Trips for instance do not respond to the Pause/Break button
It’s the best option we have at the moment?

I think it's not an option as it does not pause CigarBox. So, if you press Pause/Break and leave the sim for 2 hours, flight time in CigarBox will be 2 hours longer.

The only option, as I see it, is to use the pause in the development menu. Didn't find anything else.

I tried a dedicated control switch to pause the sim in FSUIPC and that didn't work either.

OK, with the Paid version of FSUIPC you can create a switch either on your yoke, or throttle box or button box...it doesn't really matter as long as FSUIPC will accept the input.  Set this button to toggle PAUSE.  It will control both MSFS and Cigar Box.

Another way to work around this is to save the flight after stopping it (mid flight) in Cigar box and then pause the sim the normal way.  When you return to your flight, load the saved flight into Cigar Box and then start the sim.

I have tested it both ways with success....YMMV but I think this is a way to take a break.
