Adjust cokpit view in MSFS
« on: March 21, 2021, 08:25:28 AM »
I have got some troubles adjusting and saving camer views. Here is a video as an example:

https://vimeo.com/526865491

Every time I save the camera view it gets changed before saving. Anyone has an idea what I'm doing wrong?

Thx,
Karl

Karl,
I am not sure from the video exactly how you are changing the view but for realistic flight and realistic view, I use TrackIR.  I was never able to get the view that I experienced as a pilot in a real airplane.  This program....and hardware along with the Paid Version of FSUIPC are the two things I can't fly without and the first two things I made sure worked in MSFS2020.  If I missed your point...sorry.

Best

Henry, I have TrackIR but I don't like it. So I adjust my position in the cockpit differently for each aircraft.

In P3D I change the eyepoint forward, back, left, right together with the tilt and zoom of the camera. This setting gets saved when the flight is saved.

In MSFS there is no eyepoint, I have to change camera parameters only. There are 3 special camera positions, the ifr, vfr and landing pilot view. They are saved using Ctrl-F9, Ctrl-F10 and Ctrl-F11. To recall them F9, F10 and F11 is used. But every time I press Ctrl-F9 (or 10 or 11) the camera for some reason gets changed before it is saved.

I was wondering if anybody is also adjusting and saving camera parameters and has found the reason for that or a workaround.

On TracKIR are you using the active headset or the reflector one on a hat?  For me, it lets me have the great graphics of a 4k monitor with the movement of VR....someday, VR will have both at an affordable price, but with a custom profile and a couple of "tricks" TrackIR is perfect for me.  Let me know your issues.

I have TrackIR 5. Do I need TrackIR 6? Or, should I have it?

Karl

Edit: And how do I use it with no headset? I think Rod uses it that way?

I use TrackIR 5 and it works very well with MSFS -- it's better integrated than I expected.

In your photo above, you seem to have the regular TrackIR clip, which is designed to slip onto the bill of a ballcap. I used it that way for years, until I switched to using a headset, and then I attached the clip to my headset with zip ties.

I recently switched to a ProClip (which has active LEDs and is easier for the TrackIR camera to track). I don't know of any way to make that work without a headset.

There is no "TrackIR 6", it only goes up to 5.4.  "No headset" is not an option.  You must use either the passive hat clip style, or the active IR headset clip style of reflectors.  The sensor must "see" your head movements somehow.  There are two types of sensors to track head movement.  One is passive, using reflective material, as you know.  The other has a trio of active IR lights, that can be seen at greater distance by the sensor.  I use the passive reflectors, clipped to my headset, because I sit about 4 feet from my sensor.  The TrackIR website said you only need the active IR version for longer distances from your sensor.  The TrackClip Pro costs about $35 on the Naturalpoint website.   ;)

Tomorrow I will receive a Track Clip Pro. I will then report how it goes.

If you don't want to use it with a head set, you can use a women's hair band (I stole one from my wife!) Minor modification with some hook and loop and your all set to go.  I don't like head sets because I get my audio from the sim through my hearing aids, so I use a wireless mike on a behind the ear band.  It works well.  The LED system has never given me a problem and eye point isn't a problem. BTW I think that eye point in MSFS is the up / down arrow key (but with TrackIR it will override that setting) I will not fly without it.

Thanks, that's a good suggestion. I only use my headset when in multiplay, else I rather leave it away.

Me too Karl, and that's why I like the hair band....it's about 1" wide and works well...and I add the mike only in multiplayer.

Got it. Also I got my new 55" TV today. Everything is working perfect. Much better than with the clip. Have to get a hair band, my wife doesn't use them.

In the Top Rudder Solo the TrackIR is a hit!

Henry, would you kindly provide me with your settings for TrackIR?
