Trouble Downloading the RTMM_Master file
« on: December 03, 2020, 01:52:32 PM »
Hi,
I am reinstalling FSX-SE and want to try the RTMM Master file this time.

I have downloaded the file four times.  Each time Google drive hassles me a little bit about hhow it can't scan the file, but it seems to download just fine each time.

However, when I try to unzip the file I run into trouble, whether I use WinZip or Windows.  Each time the computer chokes on the file in the same place and I get the message in the attached screenshot.

I know that lots of other people have downloaded and unzipped this file just fine, but I don't know what I am doing wrong.  Any ideas?

One possibility....

Depending on your system structure, the unzip may create a "path too long" situation. It may only be a few letters.   Copy the zip file to the G: root drive and try to unzip it there instead of into a folder that is already created on the G: root drive that adds several more characters to the path.

Just a thought....

Strange...

Drive letter G suggests you have a lot of drives installed. Which drive is G?  A regular disk? Or rather a USB stick? An external drive formatted with an outdated filesystem? Or even a DVD?

Did extracting to G: ever work? If yes, Rods tip probably is a good one.

Wasn't there an option to maintain drive and directory? Do you even have a G drive?

Hi Karl,

I have C:, D:, E:, F:,  and G: internal drives for a total of 7 TB.  All are SSDs excpet E: which is a conventional WD Green drive.  I also have an external 4 TB My Book drive for backups.

M: 1T M2 Drive
N: 2T M2 Drive
P: 1T SSD

Wow, yes!  That path statement is quite large indeed.  I agree with Rod.  ;)

Knew the long path of a couple folders/files might cause a problem depending on where extracted. Will truncate in the next version.

Man, you guys also have lots of drives: with some speedy drives as well as lots of capacity/storage!. Nice!

Thanks for the help, guys!  I finally got it.  I followed Rob's suggestion and ended up shortening the name of the file to "R" in the C: root directory (C:/R) and WinZip unzipped it.

Yes, I do have a G: drive (don't know why "G"...). I use it mostly for downloads and backups.

Thanks again for your help!
