Cessna 172 RTMM Repaint
« on: August 31, 2020, 06:45:59 PM »
(edit: I added a download and instructions here)

(edit 2:  Releasing additional liveries is on hold for a bit while I figure out why some liveries are appearing on planes that they shouldn't.     The 172 should still be safe to install since this quirk doesn't negatively affect the other planes, but it's a glitch that I want to get figured out before releasing any more repaints into the wild. )

I've been working on figuring out the livery creation process (repaints) in the new sim.   I created a relatively simple one for the 172 that I thought I'd share.  Still learning, the process definitely has its quirks.  I'm still figuring out the best way to share it for anyone that wants repaints, but due to having to maintain json and cfg files, it can be tricky if people already have addon liveries installed.

I’m flying it and it looks great. Thanks Dan!

Here's how it looks in my setup ... notice the pilot sure looks like Dan!!! :-) (But I have no idea who that woman in there with him is!)

I can probably get the zip file uploaded with the caveat that it's ONLY intended for installing if you currently have no other 172 liveries.   The way the livery system works, you have to maintain a local list of variants in a json file as well as a cfg file.   The zip will have those already configured for this livery as well as the default.

People experienced with editing files like that (or are willing to try) would be able to shoehorn it into your other 172 liveries, it's not difficult, it's just a necessary step if you're going to use it with other variants.  I don't see an easier way to do it at this time.

Thanks for the kind words, glad you liked this first attempt, I had fun with it so I'll probably do others at some point.

I have uploaded the file here:  RTMM Cessna 172 for MSFS 2020

Install instructions:

Again, these simple instructions are only for those with no current Cessna 172 repaints installed.  Use at your own risk, I'm new to this!  I've included a link to a video in the readme that explains how to add entries into the json and cfg files if you want to add it so an existing collection of 172 liveries.

  • Download and open the zip file
  • Navigate to your "Community" folder wherever you installed MSFS.  It will be in the base directory along with their "Official" directory.
  • Extract the folder "livery-c172sp-as1000" and all of its contents from the zip file into your Community folder
  • Restart MSFS and you should have the livery available under Profile > Hangar

Optional:
If you want to change your tail number, you can find that in the aircraft.cfg file under the FLTSIM.1 section located at: <your MSFS install directory>\Community\livery-c172sp-as1000\SimObjects\Airplanes\Asobo_C172sp_AS1000

Code: [Select]
atc_id = "ASXGSA" ; tail number

Hi Dan,

Is there a version for the analog C172.  I don't fly glass.
