Klaus, you are also thinking about getting a 3090?

There are rumors that a 3080 will appear featuring 20GB of VRAM. This lets me think twice about that 3090. There are test already comparing 3080 and 3090 in speed:

https://www.computerbase.de/2020-09/geforce-rtx-3090-gigabyte-msi-test/2/#abschnitt_benchmarks_in_3840__2160

The difference is not more than 10 to 15%.

But, as you stated: we have to wait a bit anyway to see if the 3090 is reliable in tests and until it is well available. Until then we might already know when an upgraded 3080 (Super?) with 20GB will be available.

Yes, this is the Plan.....

I‘ve have read about the 10 to 15 per Cent advantage of the 3090 over the 3080.

I think it will take at least two months before the 3090 is in sufficent numbers avaible on the market....by the way nearly the same time I was searching for the I9 10900K in Germany.

I have heard about a 3080 with 20GB. The question for me is, is it really significant cheaper than the 3090. I‘m not sure already......

As you said 3090 or 3080, we will have to wait......

New Nvidia RTX 3080 Teardown Reveals A Serious Problem: Issues with 3080:

VideoCardz was the first English language site to report that several 3rd-party, factory-overclocked RTX 3080 models from ZOTAC, MSI, Gigabyte and others are exhibiting unexplained crashes or severe graphical artifacts while gaming. Since then the problem has become more widespread, with complaints mounting on sites like Reddit, LinusTechTips and Nvidia’s own forums.

What’s The Problem, Exactly?

In a nutshell: when the affected models reach a boost GPU clock speed of 2.0GHz or higher, the card crashes to the desktop.

So, what are the early adopters doing? Do they get a refund? Or can it maybe fixed by a firmware update?

A boost clock of 2.0 or higher is too high for the NVIDIA FE design. A firmware could probably stop the card from going so high. Bad thing then is that those cards cannot be OCed very well.

Anyway, I wait...

Just watched the articles from igorslab an Jaystwocents....I‘m no chip technichian so I do not understand the problem in it‘s full meaning.

They believe the crashes with overclocked 3000series cards are caused by cheap capasitors which some card manufactorers built on their cards. So this would be an hardware issue and not driver based.
The Nividia FE cards have better ones. So seem not that vulnerable for crashes. Problem‘s there were driver related.
Some other manufactorers like Asus seem to use better capasitors and their cards do not show these chrashes caused by the hardware.

I thought this worse gpu launch was a chaos for the lot people who didn‘t get one. Now it seems it ends in chaos for the few who were able to grab one......

Let‘s wait the following days....maybe some light will be brought onto this

That's the only 3090 available in Germany and Austria. But the price is ... erm.... too high. I have to wait.

Honestly I don‘t believe the card is really avaiable.

I fear the prices will stay for a certain time at this high level. The TUF is be have not the most pricy one.

The 3090 ROG strix is at 1900 to 1950 €‘s.....which is my favourite card to get.
I‘ve seen a EVGA 3090 listed at about 2100€ :o :o :o

Latest comments by Nvidia indicate that the shortage of 3080 and 3090 cards will last untill january 2021 :o

Edit:
Just checked the german mediamarkt website......the card is not avaiable.

Not sure how reliable it is, probably I would have to go there and check  ;D. But in Innsbruck the card is ready for pickup after ordering it. Also in other affiliate shops. Pickup would be on Monday earliest.

Interesting...if you could get one, you could consider buying.

I don‘t think they will be much cheaper within the next weeks.......

So as I have to wait anywayI was also vonsidering getting a 3080Ti with 20GB VRam.
But I guess they will not be significant cheaper.....and availability will also be extrem limited or not present.

Never thought this will happen....I‘m willing to buy a graphicscard for lot of money.....but I can‘t get one because not avaiable...... :o :o :'( :'(

The interesting thing is, everytime I start Youtube and see all those youtube techinfluencers praising their 3080 and 3090 they did get from Nvidia and the other card manufactorers for promotion purposes.....I‘ll tend to know where did most of these few already produced cards where shipped to.

Well, actually Nvidia suggests the situation is not too few cards but too many orders. That's funny.

And yes, I also would want to have a ROG STRIX OC if possible.

Klaus, until we get hold of a card Robert is already tired of it looking for a 4090!  ;D

I went to a store this morning (Media Markt) to get additional 16GB DDR4 for my client PC in order to have 32GB in it then, and guess what I saw: A MSI GeForce RTX 3090 Gaming X Trio, ready for getting it right away. It cost Euro 1.799,- which is not so much overpriced.

I didn't take it.
