Poll: What Sim do you use?
« on: July 02, 2020, 04:06:52 PM »
Hello RTMM,
What sim are we all flying around in?  I want to ask the RTMM community to come to their census, and share what flavor of sim we all use.

Indicate which sim you use in the poll above.  ::)

Thanks.

I use V4.5, V5 and XP11. I ticked V5 as I use it most.

Thanks Karl.  Sorry.  I know some have more than one sim.  I don't have an option for multiple answers.  Must choose one, I guess.  Everyone should just mention, as you did, if you've got more or I missed a sim type etc.  Also, if you plan to upgrade in the future would be good to know, I guess.

This is a good place for a discussion of this topic, if you wish.

Ah, yes.  Steam Edition.  I forgot that one.  Yep, just FSX is fine for SE too.  I'll edit the poll.

Hmm... Upgrade... hmm....

That's a good question. I use XP11 just sometimes, ever less. Over the years I have invested a lot in the ESP based sims, FSX and P3D. I still fly airplanes I used in FSX, and I added many native P3D planes. I've got a lot of sceneries, mostly ORBX. And a lot of airports.

I will not throw this away for MSFS2020.

IF (and I believe that) MSFS2020 is a one time payment I will probably get it. If it's a subscription only I will have to closely look at the conditions and then decide.

Still, RTMM means so much to me that I cannot imagine to get rid of P3D. 90 percent of my flying is in the RTMM environment.

Karl

 ???

This is just a poll to see what the community flies in.  I'm thinking not everyone is moving to P3dv5, even that most are using FSX, etc.  I own XP11, but have never flown in it.  I was curious about it, but found I didn't like it's UI.  So, just the one we are flying in is what I am wondering.

Still using FSX DX10 and couldn't be happier. I learned long ago that newer isn't always better, and I don't have the time to waste, energy, money, patience or willingness to upgrade to a new version of P3D every year or 2 that continually screws everything up. Then I'd have to upgrade or repurchase my other peripheral software in order to keep current. Call me old fashioned, just my opinion.

With you Steve,
But change from 32 Bit System to 64 Bit System changed my view.
You surely switched from DOS to Windows, didn'you?
Up to P3D v4.5 it is fully compatible with FSX, NOW WE HAVE PROBS WITH v5

Yes, but there is one which logged MSFS 2020. And it nust be a alpha tester. So I'm curious who it is.

I'm new to RTMM, but all my flying so far has been with FSX:SE

I also have X-Plane 11 and like just about eveything about it except for 3 aspects which are close to deal breakers; default weather clouds (frame rate killers), ATC and water physics/dynamics modelling. The 3rd is the worst because improvements don't seem to be anywhere in Laminar Research's pipeline. Whereas you can get 3rd party solutions to help with weather and you can buy a snap-in to allow you to use Radar Contact for ATC. !n general I prefer the flight modeling in X-P11 to FSX and really like the helos, which I won't even bother with anymore in FSX. I like bush piloting more than any other type of flying though, so poor water and floatplane modeling means X-P11 does a digital snooze on my hard drive unless I get an itch for helos.

I've never tried Prepar3D, because I consider myself to casual a flight simer to pay the steep price. When I bought X-P11 I figured it would be my mext goto flight sim for some time. With a significant investment in aircraft and scenery that can also be used with P3D though, I'm beginning to rethink that.

It's not me although I did sign up for the alpha 2020. I guess the had enough alphas.. but covid might have slowed the progress.

Speaking of alpha testers.. I guess they had bare bones alpha testers or none for P3Dv5...lol.. that is except the end users: we were the guinea pigs that told LM what was wrong or what to fix.. .. and not even two weeks later hf1... It sure was
necessary then not even a month later hf2 to fix more!!

Good sim now but no way 2 hot fixes should have been necessary to that initial release to get some serious issues rectified but anyways... directx12 provides much better graphics. But some terrain anomalies or variations to previous versions as some have found.

For some reason there are many more views than votes.  Weird.  :o

Please vote, even if you're a "guest" of the community.   ;)

Thanks.  8)
