P3Dv5 provides DX12. Can somebody explain pls what I am missing if my graphic card is not DX12 ready? Is it worth buying a new graphic card only for this reason ?
P3Dv5x is DX212 codec. If you don't have supported DX12 components P3Dv5x won't run.
There is two pieces to this. Your OS/Directx version and your GPU. (If you are running the latest version of 10 you may have Directx 12 installed and running but your gpu might not be able to support dx12). Since
dx12 is backwards compatible if your GPU does not support DX12 it will run at dx11 or lower to match your
GPU architecture/processor or to what DirectX version your GPU supports but no higher.
Any dx12 apps (IE: P3Dv5). It might install ok and when started it might function for a brief moment but it will have graphic distortion or CTD from the get go because the DX12 codec is not supported by the GPU hence the graphic in the app exceed the capability of the GPU.
It's like trying to run a 64 bit app on a system that is 32 bit - doesn't work and will CTD everytime.
1. Windows 10 is the only operating system that supports DirectX 12, which means if you want in on these features you need windows 10 OS - running DX12. Determine the DirectX Version of software installed:
To use the DirectX Diagnostic Tool to determine the version of DirectX that is installed on your computer, follow these steps: Click Start, and then click Run. Type dxdiag, and then click OK. On the System tab, note the version of DirectX that is displayed on the DirectX Version line.
You should see on the system tab the DirectX Version: DirectX 12
2. Supported Dx12 GPU - Many GEForce NVidia GPU support DX12. See links below:

So check your OS and find out if your GPU supports DX12.
What GPU (video card) do you have?
