P3Dv5 Problem with Hardened Object Surfaces
« on: April 18, 2020, 02:42:41 PM »
Besides possible issues with effects, I am hearing that Lockheed changed the parameters that affect object surface hardening.  This could mean that certain RTMM objects that have been hardened (e.g. platforms) might not hold an aircraft (it would sink through).  I am not yet aware of any specific RTMM examples at this time but did note that Orbx has confirmed that the bridge at Bear Gulch (W38) no longer supports aircraft in P3Dv5.  W38 is part of Cushman Meadows payware (KCMW).

I made quite a few hardened surfaces for the custom BWEP objects; oli platforms, helipads. roof tops, etc. It would be a shame if they are useless in PDV5.

I also read about the new handling with effects and hardened surfaces.

Today I did a few flights around Ketchikan area, like the nearby powerstations. The helipads there seem to work. Also the type of helipads installed at PF20 works. A lot of the are placed along the BWEP powerlines.
But had not the chance testing the BWEP locations. Hope I can do this the following days.

I‘m curios if the absence of ORBX Vector, which is no longer supported by ORBX and will not updated, any impact. ORBX Vector is no longer needed as the new data in P3dv5 is good enough.

The problem is tabled at LM.. and also an AGL required fix for hitting terrain at low altitudes when a pilot is well above the ground.. should be fixed in next issue if v5..we hope. . But graphics are definitely better including shorelines, waves, etc in v5 which is using dx12. (Hence vector isn't and won't be further developed going forward into v5.

O.T.

"""Hence vector isn't and won't be further developed going forward into v5."""

Global VECTOR is not a proprietary product of Orbx development but was developed by the Austrian software company "Pilot's" for Orbx. Orbx was only responsible for sale.
This software has never been particularly maintained since its release.
I think Orbx is more than happy that this product, which has been buggy until today, will now be removed from the Orbx software offer list.
P3D v4.x users will still be dependent on it.

Yes, I have experienced the hitting terrain issue on low level flights a few times, too. I think it can happen anytime anywhere.

The big loss will be the traffic that Global Vector provided on its roads.   A few users are copying some of the old vector files and making a scenery entry out of them to recreate the traffic.  I am not sure how robust that approach will be.  Things are much easier for me....I don't fly outside of Orbx regions.

Regarding hardenend surfaces, I have attached a screenshot of a flight in my Firehawk around Ketchikan today.

I landed on a boat pier of a lodge just northeast of Ketchikan. I don`t know it`s Name. Maybe it belongs to the Yes Bay scenery?

Landing the helo on the pier worked quite good……

An other example for working RTMM helopads in v5: the helopad on rooftop of BWEP Headquarter Building in Fairbanks at PF58.

Glad to see that so far it looks like the hardened objects are not affected.
