P3D V5... always something!
« on: April 13, 2020, 11:06:19 AM »
Just when I told myself I will take it easy and hold off with purchasing FS Programs except for maybe the new Boulder City by Orbx before the new MSFS 2020 debuts. Now, comes along P3D V5.  I know it will take time before all my present programs for P3D V4.5 will be up upgraded to run in P3D V5 but, that new weather and water is too tempting not to give it a whirl.
The nice part is P3D V5 is a stand alone program and can be installed on the same PC as P3D V4.5 which will allow me to have fun / testing until my current programs are upgraded from V4.5 to V5 then do the dreaded change over to 100% P3D V5
...am I making any sense here  :-\

At this point I think no one knows just how the RTMM scenery content can exist in MSFS 2020 if, at all.

I will always use the P3D platform along side with MSFS 2020 until a solution is comes out that will allow RTMM sceneries in MSFS 2020.

At this point I guess “ just trying to have my cake and eat it to “ as the saying goes.

Yeah, right there with you.  I'll purchase P3DV5 and run it with MM scenery as well as MSFS 2020.  At least until I determine which sim I like best.

Aren't hobbies fun......

Hmmm.... I cannot beliefe that there are no drawbacks with MSFS20. Looks too promising.

Anyway, my favourite sim will be the one that supports RTMM best.

I am not sure about 2020.  Microsoft has always maintained their flight sim as a "game".  I know that many (most) simmers are not pilots so the experience is what ever you want it to be.  But for the licensed pilots, most if not all are looking for the experience they have had in the cockpit.  Personally I never use a moving map, no GPS, no auto pilot and I fly as I was trained. As such, P3D is the closest thing to real flying.  I wish that VR would have the solution of true 4k, and when it does, that may be the best of the best. So I have no interest in Microsofts new flight sim......remember they sold off their game, and they sold off their simulator and now they are back.....but not for me.

I said I would hold off v5, but the truth is we are all looking for the next adventure....so when it is released, I will buy and then see what, if anything is compatable.  It will be eventually....and it's something fun to be working on while we all sit at home.

I will definitely taking a look at v5.

Along with the cloud and water enhancements overall performance increases have been highlighted as a new feature.

FS20...just waiting for the "sting" in the tail.  MS are keeping the "commericals" very quiet no doubt for very good reason.

Just purchased V5. That worked, but the download server of Lockheed Martin is obviously down.

download was painless and while I have a very fast internet, I had no trouble with the download....installed fine.  FSUIPC6 (cheap upgrade) works great, and using xml installation, all the  RTMM scenery went in and works well.  Probably a little tweaking, but I am thinking I will be over to v5 by tomorrow.

For those wondering, ORBX central updates on starting the program. v5 goes in quickly and works side by side with v4.  Track IR worked with FSUIPC instantly.  There is lots more to investigate, but my first impression is very favorable.  I suspect I may not be flying on 4.5 much in the future.  BTW, ORBX installs into a folder and apparently is their version of an .xml install.  There a couple of files that will be installed directly.  But with the .xml installation (thanks for the help Norm) the installation was the fastest and easiest I have every done.

Hopefully you have a good experience as well.
