Reinstall to P3Dv4
« on: February 19, 2020, 05:20:12 AM »
I am reinstalling to a new computer and from FSX to P3Dv4.  I have the RTMM scenery backed up on external drive. Can I use the old scenery or would it be better to start over with new installs so I would have the latest versions?  Thanks.

Hi,
Yes, installing the latest versions is the best option for moving to P3D from FSX.

Win10Pro64, MSFS 1.25.9.0, P3Dv4.3.29.25520, AMD Ryzen7 1800X@3.6 GHz , 32Gb RAM, GTX 1080 Ti, 2x42" Vizio Monitors, HTC Vive VR HMD, Saitek Yoke/Pedals/trim wheel, XBox360 Controller, G27 steering wheel w/shifter+pedals. :P

There are some major differences between the software that can be used on FSX versus what is required for  P3Dv4x: Some of the older models can't be use in P3Dv4x and gauges airplane sound configs and effects are different in P3Dv4x.

There is a few things you have to do with Tongass to make it work in P3Dv4x (Terrain.cfg)
alike the AS Beaver project to make it work in P3Dv4. and a couple of the ai models in RTMM have to be updated for use P3Dv4x.

Refer to the P3Dv4x section here:  Step tables 5-8, 9.

AS Beaver conversion to P3D: LINK: https://return.mistymoorings.com/faq/

Now also be careful with the new Orbx Central (v4) (current v 4.0.39). Once you have RTMM LIbs in and Tongass in, the insertion points in Orbx Central must be correctly set or your scenery layering blocks will be incorrect.

Set insertion points:
Orbx Airports and regions entries must be placed below RTMM LIBS, and
Orbx Global openLC must be inserted below Tongass Lower.

Can give you hand Carl later on some of this stuff after you have the sim installed on the new puter.

I haven"t been able to get to this adventure yet.  Trying to figure out how to use "Link Shell Extension" to free up disk space.    Everything is loading into the OS on the SSD which of course will not handle that large of files and I am trying to get folders moved to the hard drive. The directions look easy, but!  I have done it before on my old computer with a different program and was easy.  A new computer is always fun.
