Running low on steam to run FSX:SE
« on: October 12, 2019, 03:53:33 PM »
Running FSX:SE (but probably the same as FSX) on Win 10 and I'm starting to get stutter and flat plane objects (like a spinning disk for prop.) Loading is very slow as well. This hasn't been a problem until recently.

Installed: addon Orbx and TFX, ActiveSky. I do disable scenery regions I'm not flying in and that helps load time but it is still slow. I use Ultimate Defrag. I've turned off virus scanning for scenery.

I have an all-in-one so I can't upgrade video - it has NVIDIA GeForce 930MX and it has done well in the past. I have used the FSX graphics recommendations for the GeForce card.

I'm thinking I may be able to lower some of the Custom settings for Scenery - are there some tuning notes for optimal RTMM scenery viewing?

Any other performance suggestions?

Is there a way to refresh FSX w/o a full reinstall? I see the scenery cache gets rebuilt - is there some other cache that can be cleared?

Thanks!

Just delete your shaders and shaders10 folders.

Not sure where on the SE version but in fsx boxed are in c:\us\your name\microsoft\fsx

Also delete you scenery indexes folder.. in FSX boxed is located in c:\programdata\microsoft\fsx.

Fsx will rebuild these folders upon restart.
