Hollis Harbor Updated V2 - Zip V1.0
« on: June 18, 2019, 04:17:04 PM »
Hello

I see HH is now V2.
Why is the zip file still at v1.0?

Regards
Josh

The scenery version has stayed the same at v1.0 - as per the RTMM Maintenance Log which is attached to the link in the date-(See: http://return.mistymoorings.com/scenery/zipfiles/hollis_harbor/maintenance_log.php)

03.10.2019    V1.1 Patch added ... typo fixed on scenery page ... by Rod Jackson and Doug Linn
05.21.2019    added version.txt to /scenery ... jdl
06.15.2019    Added New ESxml

But there is also the 1.1 update at the bottom of Hollis Harbor.. as of 03.10.2019
but v2.0 was only the update to add the version.txt and ESxml file. (which will be needed later)

So really the actual scenery pieces are 1.1 as it sits now.. but from understanding a new easier Hollis will be updated shortly.

Clear as mud? - Not really, but lets just say for now that there is an updated Hollis Harbor coming which will be much clearer and much easier.  (But it might be called Hollis Harbor version 2.1 ?)

Thanks, Norm.
I look forward to it.
I just thought as it was advertised as V2 all related files would be v2 as well.
What do I know?!?! :-\

The combined version is v2.1.  It does not add any new functionality but eliminates the extra action of having to get two downloads.   However, Josh, if you haven't installed it yet, it would be better if you waited for v2.1 to be posted which will be as soon as tomorrow.

Hi Josh,

V2.1 of Hollis Harbor has been submitted to Doug for updating the Scenery library.  You won't have to bother with v1.0 and v1.1 as this new version combines the two.  There is no new functionality. However, some effects for the Ferry etc. gave people trouble using P3D.  Now everything tests out working on my P3Dv4.4 version.  Of course, the new version also supports FSX.  Here is a pic I just took:

Let me know if all works for you once you are able to download it from the RTMM Scenery Library.

Hey Rod - is that the Leconte in 4.4? If so how did you get the smoke to work? All I get is a cotton ball sitting on top of the boat.
Thanks,
Bob

Yes, it is the LeConte.  Download the Hollis Harbor (v2.1) scenery from the RTMM Library and take a look at the Hollis Boats folder.  The readme tells you exactly the changes to make to the original Tongass LeConte folder (they should also be able to also be made to a folder that you have had for some time).  The Hollis Foats folder also contains an effects file to support the changes to the LeConte aircraft.cfg file.

Hi Rod,
Took a look at the read me file in the Hollis Harbor boats section.
I think the [contact_points] section that is to be used to replace the existing one  in the aircraft.cfg is not complete.
It only includes the definitions section; the actual contact points are not included and as a result the boats do not show.
Maybe the "always_use_avg_surface=1" part to be added is the important part?

Hi Bob,

You are correct the instruction is wrong in two places...sorry about that .....I will make the change.....just insert the one line: always_use_avg_surface=1 under the [contact_points] header for both the contact point changes.

Hope you backed up the originals like instructed.  If not, I can always send you a copy.

6-21-19 4:27 update:  The RTMM Scenery Library download for Hollis Harbor (v2.1) has now been updated to correct the incorrect installation instruction contained inside the Hollis Boats folder.   The download should now have the correct instructions.

Hi Rod,
Nope I actually had the effect file in use already - the one supplied in the Hollis file is the same as mine.
Unfortunately I still have the cotton ball smoke effect on the Leconte when viewed at a distance.
Up close it looks correct - maybe something to do with my 4k screen and video driver.
All of the other shipping smoke appears correct (Henricks and the RTMM shipping) so maybe something in the model file itself.
Anyway I have turned off the smoke part of the effect and all is well.. :)

Hi Bob,

You say it looks good up close.  Can you post a pic of up close and far away to show the effect you are talking about?

Hello
One observation: I already have the eagle air texture in my AI Beaver folder but cannot remember which RTMM scenery/sceneries it would have come from. The package seems identical so there is no need for me to install.

So I'm suggesting the Hollis floats readme should contain some words advising the user that he may already have these files installed if he has previously installed scenery/sceneries XXX [I'm sure you guys know what other scenery installs Eagle air] and can skip that part of the installation.

And I'm guessing that in turn the other relevant scenery/sceneries' readme should also have some extra words of advice to the same effect.

Finally - should this type of 'cross referencing' check be a defined step in the QC procedure. Just saying.

Regards
Josh

Bob,

Thanks for posting the pic.  The screen shot seems a bit blurry but, I believe my smoke at a distance has the same effect.  I think that you are seeing the limitation of FSX/P3D if how it displays effects at a distance.  The detail of objects/effects at a distance are reduced to control frame rate degredation.
