PLAN G Additional Scenery
« on: May 21, 2019, 08:54:13 AM »
Hi all

When I build the P3D database I include the ORBXLIBS folder plus the 'scenery' folders from my ORBX region scenery packages in the Additional Scenery Locations box, e.g., FTXAU15_SCENERY.

Do I need to make reference to the RTMM sceneries here also if I'm adding them to the scenery library via the xml method?

I'm assuming if I added the RTMM scenery via the scenery.cfg it would be picked up automatically.

In general what constitutes 'additional scenery' as far as Plan G is concerned?

Thanks
Josh

In Plan G - reference the add-on scenery folder - or all main folders where you have add-on scenery
IE: RTMM folder - and it should include all of the scenery sub-folders. Reference all the scenery main folders, then run the database (Data - Build Navigation Database > Settings - Additional Scenery Locations).  The BUild the Naivation Database). When done close the planner and restart.

Additionally for Plan G: there is a great feature: DL the *.Csv files from Dieter' Corner and upload into the Plan G database and then you'll be able to see many POI.

If you fly all over the world, DL all the csv from that page then add/import to your Plan G database and you'll have all the available poi locations showing in Plan G.

Hope this helps.

Norm - thanks.

And this is the point where I display my ignorance......

Can you tell me what information Plan G is seeking to use from the scenery folders?

Thanks
Josh

Ah ok.. most planners require the airport/scenery coordinates (Lat/Long) as well as elevation to create its database - required to be able to create flight plans. The csv add important poi and/or other points of interest into the mapping display.

By rebuilding PlanG database all ADEX (formerly called  AFCAD/is an acronym for the design program named "Aircraft Facilities Computer Aided Design.") files are read from all installed sceneries that are included in the scenery.cfg.. A symbol is written on the map (circle with black line) symbolizing airport, rwy and rwy direction. Additionally name and field elevation is stored.
To do so:
Open PlanG - in menu tab click Data - Build Navigation Database - choose FSX or P3D - click ok.
Now the database will be (re)build. That might take a while based on the amount of sceneries installed.

- POIs (Point of Interests)
These are selfmade points displayed on PlanG map (like yellow stars, green dots, circles a.s.o)
As Norm already mentioned I created POI's for all RTMM sceneries and many Orbx sceneries ready to import into PlanG. These csv-files can be imported via Data - Manage - Import.
In case the POI's are not directly shown on the map close PlanG and open again.

Basically after installing a new scenery the database must be rebuild.

Norm and Dieter,  thank you for the explanations. Much appreciated.

Dieter -May I also thank you for your POI csv files. Bloody brilliant! [Good call, Norm].

I'm off now to fly over some green dots......

For info... all those green dots, or tower/lighthouse obstacle markers or import yellow star locations/POI's etc etc that are contained in the plan G database/csv imported data and of course the airports and RTMM strips, are visited as we progress in the tours at Misty Flying Club. I try to create routes/tours that visit most of the scenic areas and POI locations in our "normal" operating area..(for the most part, but not limited too..lol..)
Am trying to do a structured progressive/continuous RTMM/Tongass/Orbx world tour of sorts at MFC - but it will sure take a while to cover these lands. Feel free anytime Josh.
