Aircraft Type for tours
« on: April 09, 2019, 04:28:20 PM »
I'm starting tour 5 (Barnstormers) now. I would want to fly the legs with my BN2 Islander. As the Islander is not available in a floa or amphib version I have to fly leg 1 with a different plane.

Now, if I select C185 as the aircraft type, can i then fly the Islander? And in contrary, if I select a twin, can I use the C185F for leg 1?

And after all is it anyway possible to select a twin (e.g. C-47) and use the Islander?

Questions, questions, questions.... sorry for being bothersome, but I need to know.

Thx,
Karl

Well yes, yes and yes.. and no problem at all Karl.

So if you choose an airplane for a tour.. you can always change it in Cigar Box for any leg. You can change the plane for the 1st leg, or any other leg in the tour... or change any other airplane on any other leg.

Have prepared 4 pics to show how to do this. Beloe:

Ok, this worked out nicely. I signed up for the tour selecting a twin (C-47) and then changed to C185F for the first leg.

Now from the 2nd leg I will change to the Islander. I then just change the number of pax according to the available seats on the Islander?

Thx,
Karl

I have the airplanes that are listed in Cigar Box set up for passengers/cargo if any.
I'll set up the BN2 Islander since it is a good bush!! And it will be just a selection-and the rest will be all setup.

Ok, all done: The BN2 will now appear in Cigar Box as follows:
NBN2MM - BN2 - BN2.

Here are on the specs here which I defined in the MFC aircraft fleet profile for the BN2 when you see it in Cigar Box.

ICAO - BN2
MFC Reg - NBN2MM
Capacity: 9 passengers
-------------------------
Range: 874 miles (756 nm, 1,400 km)
Empty weight: 3,675 lb (1,667 kg)
Max. takeoff weight: 6,600 lb (2,994 kg)
Cruise speed: 160 mph (139 knots, 257 km/h)

-----------------------------------------------------------------
Other specs: (For info)

Performance

    Maximum speed: 170 mph (147 knots, 273 km/h)
    Cruise speed: 160 mph (139 knots, 257 km/h)
    Stall speed: 40 mph (35 knots, 64 km/h)
    Minimum controllable speed: 45 mph (39 knots, 72 km/h)
    Service ceiling: 13,200 ft (4,024 m)
    Rate of climb: 970 ft/min (295 m/min)
    Wing loading: 20 lb/ft² (99 kg/m²)
    Takeoff run 215 m
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DONE.

Happy flying the BN2!!

If any of you happens to own the Flight1 Islander, that plane works well in P3D V4 when cockpit  using sounds are changed using Doug Dawsons dll.

A neat alternative is the damage mod that can be found hwere:

https://library.avsim.net/download.php?DLID=208802

It features:

The following systems will wear out and will be inflicted damage in case of improper use :
- engines
- generators
- propellers
- flaps
- flaps motor
- flight controls
- autopilot
- vacuum
- pitot tubes
- brakes
- structural deicing (the corresponding switch is added to the virtual cockpit)
- landing lights

Extra features :
- avionics dying if on when engine starts
- blown tires in case of hard landing
- foul spark plug if engine runs at low rpm and rich mixture for too long, (rpm drop during mag dead-cut test simulated)
- engine dies in case of quick throttle movement with fuel pump off
- sluggish engine response to throttle input with cold engines
- door lock and alarm

Cool find. Didn't have that mod but it will certainly add another aspect.

"Damage Mod for Flight1's BN-2 Islander v2.0. Compatibility of the WHOLE BN-2 with P3Dv4, Interface with FSCaptain and a few bugs fixed. Bonus TF-VEJ livery included. The Damage Mod adds wear and failure to most systems of the BN-2 Islander, à la Accusim. Please read the enclosed instructions for additional details."

Thanks for the link Karl. Got it!!

Norm, I'm on a flight with the Catalina from Aerosoft right now (ICAO code for the PBY Catalina is CAT). I would like to fly this bird now and then in the RTMM scenery. May I ask to put it into Cigar Box?

Thx,
Karl

Great!

The vintage autopilot is fun to use. And landing on small lakes has to be planned quite accurately.

Sorry for stealing a thread, but ... since PBY is a pretty heavy aircraft (you need a type rating for that), as well as for DC-3 (and I suppose that in Canada/USA single pilot operations of that aircraft are not allowed) ... are big and heavy PMDG tubeliners out of question?

I mean this one, obviously :-D

(DC-6 near Misty Moorings terminal, PAWS)

There is a paint kit so I could try to make a Misty repaint for it ;-) .

I think it depends if you are able to land that bird on some shorter strips.
