Wrong terrain between Wrangell and Bronson Creek
« on: April 01, 2019, 09:13:42 AM »
I installed Bronson Creek and then flew to it departing from Wrangell. On my way to it the terrain looks like in the attached screen shot (at N56 43.01, W131 23.36, altitude 2150, heading 77.8 ). Deactivating Tongass Fjords cures the problem.

I do not have any 3rd party mesh installed and this happens with all mesh resolution settings (I use 5m). With different mesh resolutions the squares shoe a different structure but are always visible.

Anybody happens to know if this can be solved?

Thx,
Karl

Go to our FAQ page under "T". You'll see your terrain problem explained there. Start with that and keep us posted here. I've had this happen myself, it is not a "fun" problem.

Look here: http://return.mistymoorings.com/faq/#t... scroll down to "Terrain Problem".

This doesn't look like a "trees in the water" problem that the terrain problem addresses, nor a mesh problem. It looks more to me like textures that aren't loading. What happens if you pause the simulator and wait for a few minutes? Do the textures finally load? Try reloading the flight and see if the problem still happens.

(Steve, if this turns out to be DIFFERENT ... we need to document it with the "trees" Faq. These kinds of problems are SO important for us to help people solve ... thanks for jumping in).

"""Deactivating Tongass Fjords cures the problem."

Did you set Tongass higher and lower correctly in FXCentral3/Insertion Points?
Also:
- Please attach you terrain.cfg with next posting
Many greetings

Textures are not appearing, not in Pause mode and not when just flying around for some time.

I tried 3 different locations for the two TF entries:

- below openLC
- between openLC and FTX
- above FTX

Same result for those configurations.

Please find scenery.cfg attached

I looked at the "Terrain Problem" entry in the FAQs. This I did when installing TF. There are also no problems at Sitka or Petersburg for instance.

Thx,
Karl

I also tried to disable all ORBX stuff, but the problem persists.

Did you use latest Notepad++  editor for editing and writing the terrain.cfg
and did you save in code"UCS-2 LE BOM"?

Please try attached terrain.cfg.
Important: make a backup of the one you are using now.

That solved the problem, it is working with the terrain.cfg you provided. Now reproducable when going forth and back between the 2 files.

I just used plain Notepad in Windows to edit the file when I installed TF. Was that wrong?

Thx,
Karl

Just made it back from Bronson Creek to Petersburg. Everything is fine.

Thanks a lot, guys!

Great shots!

One shouldn't use the "normal" standard windows editor in P3D to create all kinds of configuration files.
This old editor creates files in ANSI-code (American National Standards Institute). Theses ones will not interpretated correctly in P3D.
It's recommended to use the Notpad++ Editor:
https://notepad-plus-plus.org/download/v7.5.4.html

in version 64-bit!

The "Lorby Organizer" has an excellent function under "Tools" called "Check encoding"
This checks if all configuration files in the installed P3D are correctly coded.
