Norm,

William Butler, pilot MFC0105, completed Tour MFC0067 Coastal Alaska-Gulf of Alaska-North Pacific-Kulik Lake to Cordova 0n 09/03/2024.

I have certainly enjoyed the last several tours as the areas covered were where I did most of my flying while in Alaska.  Valdez and Cordova bring back memories of the Oil spill.  I remember sitting my office in Anchorage on a Friday afternoon in March of 1989 when a friend ran in and said a tanker had run aground in Prince William Sound and they feared a significant oil spill had occurred.  I was asked to do a recon survey of the sight and the following Sunday we were over the Exxon Valdez taking oblique photos.  When we arrived the oil spill extended 10-15 miles from the ship.

Over the next month we assembled a team of USFWS biologist pilots and observers and 4-5 aircraft for shoreline surveys of Prince William Sound.  We planned to count sea birds, waterfowl, Bald Eagles, Sea Otters, wolves, and bears.   Our objective was to complete the shoreline survey in 7 days.  The surveys were conducted 4 times a year for next four years.  The information was used to assess the damage of the oil spill on wildlife.

It looks like there are no more MFC Tours and we will be heading out of Alaska soon.  I assume the MFS Tours are the ones I should begin next?  They seem to be designed for MSFS 2020 but it looks like we can continue to fly them with FSX.

As always I truly appreciate your work on MFC.

Bill

Thank-you Bill.. Quite a feat, you have completed all 67 MFC excursions. Yes, there is the next set of excursions (MFS) and we do continue the journey.

MFS Tours (MFS0001 onwards) were designed/defined using MSFS airport tables and RTMM Add-on scenery created for MSFS. The ICAO's used might not be 100% correct as are used in FSX/P3D but for most there will be a an equivalent FSX/P3D ICAO or alternate airport that is close that can be used for the airport locations. In my mind, it's not the exact airport locations that matter, it is the challenge of the journey flying from one location to another!

But more of the same.. well almost.. Yes, PNW, Glaciers, Cabins, Lighthouses, of Alaska and BC.. Then a North American journey then leaving the Alaska area for a bit.. We'll travel the Trench from Alaska all the way to Texas.. then eastward along the Gulf of Mexico to the Florida, then north to the NEUS and Atlantic Canada, then westward along the Canada/USA Border back to BC, then northward from BC home to Alaska.. and the journey in various Alaska locations continues once more.. then perhaps another North American journey begins... It takes time to keep creating excursions of a journey to various parts of this continent but it is interesting and even more special to know those who have lived and worked in some of these locations.

All along you have given us a real life look into your journeys and experiences living and working in Alaska even as you fly these trips in your sim. And specifically in your latest tour completion in the Cordova/Valdez areas identifies your personal dealing with the Exxon Valdez Oil spill back in March 1989. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exxon_Valdez_oil_spill)

And yes sir Bill, the completion award for MFC0067 Gulf of Alaska has been added to your pilot's award listing.
Well done and thanks so much. For me, it's your real life experiences and sharing your stories and commentaries which add a whole other dimension to just flying in the sim in these areas so thank-you for sharing your previous life experiences as you fly with us at MFC.

Norm,

William Butler, Pilot MFC0105, Completed Tour MFS0001 Pacific Northwest Adventure on 24/09/11.  I enjoyed this Tour and am looking forward to the Alaska Glacier Tours, the Alaska Cabin Tours, the Alaska Lighthouse Tours, and then moving on south and east into the U.S.  I also noticed that the second "Trench Tour" goes into New Mexico to the Rio Grande and the Chama Rivers.  I have been on the ground along them both but never in the air.  It will be a treat to see them from the SIM.

Thanks for all you do!   Bill

And this trip was a very simple and short run through the PNW. Yes after some cabins, glaciers, lighthouses, etc. some 19 excursions later, we'll be travelling the trench all the way to the Gulf, so we'll be just 'round the corner from you so we'll have to drop in to see you! lol. The completion award for the MFS0001 PNW has been added to your pilot's award listing. Thanks Bill.
