Installing Victoria+ in P3Dv4
« on: September 22, 2017, 12:07:08 PM »
Hi,
I have an interesting issue.
I don't have FSX or an older version of P3D installed on my machine any more. I have a copy of FSX-SE and P3Dv4, neither of which the installer wants to recognize as valid installation locations.

Anyone have any thoughts on how I can get Victoria + installed?

I do have a copy of FSX installed on another machine.

thanks
Gavin

Hi Gavin,

You should be able to install it onto your FSX system and then copy the unique Victoria+ components over to P3Dv4.  Make sure you use the PNW version of Victoria+ assuming you have ORBX PNW installed.  I am not sure about this since I do not have Victoria+ installed at this point.

Maybe someone else has done this with Vic+ and can comment....

Hi,
So I installed Victoria+ into my FSX install and copied the files over from my laptop to my game machine with P3D installed.
It seems to work fine, I recompiled the library objects into a P3Dv4 format using MCX and it seems to have helped the frame rates a little bit.

I really wonder if this scenery "Jon Patch - Victoria+ for Orbx PNW FSX/P3D" is really compatible with those areas we already have with Orbx PNW like CAP5, CMAP, CYWH and the Orbx freeware CAX6 in P3Dv4?
Many greetings

Hi Dieter,

Actually, compatibility is pretty good.  I have Vancouver Plus v3 for FSX, Victoria Plus for ORBX PNW, Larry Robinson's Addon Pack for Vic+ and ORBX PNW and Larry Robinson's PNW Ferries Complete.  These all have some effect on the Victoria Harbour area and work well together.  You really can't afford not to have Vic+ since it adds a lot realism to PNW's fairly generic Victoria Harbour area.  I have made a few compatibility tweaks which I would be happy to share with you if you do put in Vic+.

I am also planning to add Don Grovestine's airports CYBL, CYCD, CYQQ, CYXX, CYYJ and CZBB which all have ORBX PNW compatibility options.

Here is a close up Victoria Harbour pic that features Larry Robinson's excellent rendition of the Bellville Ferry Terminal along with some of Jon Patch's enhancement work:

Below are two animated gifs that show two views of Victoria Harbour.  Each gif cycles every 5 seconds or so between the view with PNW only and the view with PNW and Vic+ and the other three addons mentioned in the first paragraph.  In the wider angle pic with Vic+ you can see the cruise ship at the far right as well as the MV Coho (small ship leaving the harbor) at the very far right.  Great stuff!

Hello Rod,
thank you very much indeed for this detailed description! I know how much time these examinations take.

Question:
Am I correct, you are talking about  Larry Robinson's/Jon Patch's freeware pack from 2014:
- Victoria+ for ORBX FTX Pacific NorthWest (PNW) for FSX and P3D V2.2.1 - Vic+ V8_0_05
(I still have this one but not installed yet. Btw, this scenery is not available anymore. There is still a Jon Patch payware version available for small money at SimMarket.)

- The former Larry Robinson's package "VicPlus_Orbx PNW Addon Pack" is now called "LR_PNW_ferries_complete.zip"
I have installed  Larry Robinson's PNW Ferries software package from the beginning (and of course running through all updates). He is doing an excellent job on this.
Many greetings
Dieter

Scenery installed now, looks the same as your one.

Don Grovestine's airports are meanwhile P3Dv4 compatible.

Hi Dieter,

Yes, I actually used the SimMarket payware version (about 10 Euro).  Glad you now have it installed.

Hi Patrick,

Is there something specific that you think you are missing?

I had installed Victoria Plus into P3DV4 and had no issues.  After I upgraded to P3DV4.1, client and content, I had land where water should be around CYCD.  After I removed Victoria Plus everything when back to normal.  Anyone have this issue?  If so, were you able to fix it other than by removing Victoria Plus?

Thanks

Danny

I go on the pdf and .....

CYYJ (2017) portrays the Victoria (British Columbia, Canada) International Airport (CYYJ) and surrounding area, including the Coast Guard complex at nearby Pat Bay and the McDonald Industrial Park. CYYJ (2017) is compatible with all versions of Flightsim, and can be installed standalone or as a suplement to Jon Patch’s and Holger Sandmann’s Victoria+ FSX. (The installer will update the earlier version of CYYJ incorporated in Vic+ FSX.)
CYYJ is my "flagship" airport. In addition to all the standard features, CYYJ (2017) includes:
over 100 buildings and airfield structures
"wig-wags" at all Runway 09/27 intersections
individually-modeled and precisely-placed taxiway, runway, threshold and approach lights and PAPIs
realistic terrain profiles at both ends of Runway 09/27 (including the hedge on approach to 27) and on the approach to Runway 13
the Victoria Flying Club C152s and C172s custom painted in their actual “colors”(requires the HTAI Single-Prop Cessna package)
static models of the vintage aircaft on display at the BC Air Museum
a variety of military aircraft, "bisjets", courier aircraft and GA as operating AI
a representative selection of military and civilian helicopters and GA static models
with the BC Regional AI package, airline traffic and gate utilization based on actual schedules
an exquisitely-detailed CCGS Sir Wilfred Laurier moored at the Coast Guard dock
compatibility with BC Roads and EVI Shorelines (FS9 only).
It doesn't get much better than that!
The current release of CYYJ (2017) is Version 7.05. Please check the Status & Known Issues page for known issues, patches and update information.

so look at your scenery management PB biblio on first place and Victoria + under the PB  and place it in first position above FTX
