Missing something
« on: July 09, 2017, 04:25:58 PM »
I have two issues when using the Objects Tester.
1. The #5 Blue building has only the skeleton of a roof.
2. The #9 Brad's BBQ has no smoke coming from Chimneys. I do get smoke from one of the other buildings and from cabins when I fly.

Thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve,
The place to start is to double check and make sure you have all of the current libraries installed and properly activated.

As for the smoke, check in your effects folder for a file called 'fx_VentSteam", which is the effect that defines the smoke.

And where does that effects file come from ?  I don't have it in FSX or P3D. It's not in any RTMM scenery library that I have. I just went through them all.  Enlighten me please...

I did find it in my FS 2004 "Golden Wings" Effects folder. I assume it's safe to copy it to FSX and/or P3D ?

I do not have fx_VentSteam.fx in my FSX Effects folder either.  I was pretty meticulous when I did the Object installs.

Okay, I Googled fx_VentSteam.fx and found a post by ualani, some time ago, where he shared a link to his drop box.  Amazingly it was still there, so I downloaded and added it to my Effects folder.  I now see the smoke!  Thanks.

Only remaining issue is the roof on #5, but I can live with that.  Seems like that could be a missing texture.

I have ten occurrences of fx_VentSteam.fx on my system between my three flightsim directories (FSX, P3dv3, and v4) and other various folders.  They range in date from 2003 to 2015.   ;)

I don't know what to say about the effect's presence or lack thereof. Some have it and some don't, and I've never had any "FS2004 Golden Wings" of any sort. Doug obviously had/has it as well since it shows up in the Scenery Tester that he posted way back. And Jeff has 10 of them going wayyyy back too. Here it is if you need it. Stick it in your Effects folder.

I am all set.  Have the smoke for #9 & read in a 2015 thread that the roof for #5 is suppose to be wireframe.

Thanks for the help!

"Golden Wings" is a program for FS 2004. It rolls the scenery back to 1935 or so.

I have been trying for two days to get all of the scenery working.  Right now I cant get he medical facilities working or the Alaska power project.

This has become pretty tedious.

Hi Tom,
Do you have the corresponding libraries for those projects installed?  ???

Hi Jeff,

Yes all three libraries are installed as far as I can tell.

Hi Tom,
We are "hijacking" this thread, you know ... but Steve sounded like his problem was solved by now.

Let's get a grip on your situation, eh?  What are the symptoms of your issue?  Could you post some pics of the scenery in question, or the scenery tester please.  I need more clues, if your libraries are installed already.

Hi Jeff,

The scenery object tester shows everything installed except #10 and #11.  RTMM Medical Facilities and the Alaska Power Project Temp Library.  I did have the Alaska Power Project installed for a while and then it disappeared and I can't get it back. Other than that, all of the scenery is working properly.

I think what is happening is I may have the files in the wrong location or have downloaded the wrong files.

I would send some pictures but I always have trouble doing that.

Thanks for the help.
