Alaska's Call of the Wild
« on: October 03, 2016, 08:04:59 PM »
Thought of sharing a phenomenal 52-min. aerial documentary from the authoritative Smithsonian channel if it hasn't been posted here. Very informative and briefly highlights the last frontier's history, geography, wildlife and events like the popular Idatirod race and for those who don't know the legendary bush pilot Don Sheldon, survivalist Chris McCandless or the "Idatirod Air Force", among others.  Sit back and relax.. :)

Sorry Marc. :-[ Didn't know said video may be geo-restricted at your location. Unless you use a VPN or proxy service, try Googling a similar title and maybe you can view it from another video hosting site that is accessible from your country. I'm sure there are similar videos about Alaska and it's notable history. I just shared it since some RTMMers may be interested to know more about the RW counterpart and inspiration of our vast virtual playground... 8)

Glad you guys enjoyed it too.. :)

But I flew over and can't find in FSX either the Sheldon Mountain House @ Ruth Glacier near Mt. Denali, AK  (62°58'02.4"N 150°44'55.6"W) or McCandless's abandoned Magic Bus 142 @ Stampede Trail in Healy, AK (63°52’6.26″N149°46’9.46″W) which are iconic tourist attractions in the RW as narrated in the documentary, huh!  Maybe some scenery developer or hobbyist will come up with it someday.. :-\

Can only see details that have been interjected from a 3rd party or from the original map, right? The McCandless bus? You would really have to have your detail level set to a level so high as to make anything else un-viewable. Ask the NSA. They probably have pics...of your house, too.
