Microsoft Maule FSX

Hi all, wondering if anyone could tell me how to adjust the turning radius of the default Maule.  It takes me 1/4 mi to turn that thing around and it runs through everything in the process. >:(  I'm using a CH yoke. 8)  Don't have a clue where or how to make that type of adjustment.  :-\

John,
this is quite common to A/C in FSX and can be adjusted by making a change in the Aircraft Cfg. file.
1. Goto FSX\SimObjects\Airplane\Maule_M7_260C
2. Click to open the aircraft.cfg file.
3. Scroll down until you find the [contact points] section
4. Point 0 contains the steering angle in degrees for the A/C and is always the 8th number over. (each point has a comma after it)

[contact_points]
point.0 = 1, -15.7,  0.00, -2.42, 1500, 0, 0.36, 60.0, 0.3, 2.5, 0.7, 0.0, 0.0, 0
point.1 = 1,  0.00, -3.90, -4.35, 2500, 1, 0.67,  0.0, 0.3, 2.5, 0.7, 0.0, 0.0, 2
point.2 = 1,  0.00,  3.90, -4.35, 2500, 2, 0.67,  0.0, 0.3, 2.5, 0.7, 0.0, 0.0, 3
point.3 = 2, -1.00, -16.3,  2.15, 1600, 0, 0.00,  0.0, 0.0, 0.0, 0.0, 0.0, 0.0, 5,
point.4 = 2, -1.00,  16.3,  2.15, 1600, 0, 0.00,  0.0, 0.0, 0.0, 0.0, 0.0, 0.0, 6,
point.5 = 2,  5.40,   0.0, -2.80, 1600, 0, 0.00,  0.0, 0.0, 0.0, 0.0, 0.0, 0.0, 4,

5. Note the number I have in Bold, Underlined, Italics.
6. Your sim probably has 0.92
7. Change that number to the 60.0 shown and the save the file.

You must re-load the A/C after modifying the aircraft.cfg file for this to take effect.

Modify the ski version the same way.

NOTE

Be safe and make a back up of your aircraft.cfg file before altering it in case of mistakes.

Hey thanks Spud, I'll get right on it. ;D  I knew one of you guys would clue me in.  ::)  About reloading the acft, how do you reload a single acft from the microsoft fsx disc?  ???

Hi John,
     In the keyboard commands page there is a "reload aircraft" option.  By default it is blank.  Assign a key press to it.  Then when you are in the sim, just press that key or key combo and the aircraft will reload itself.  That is, it will refresh the aircraft using the config files.  Alternately, you can simply select a different plane and then switch back to the maule.  That will reload it also.
     Also, do you have brake pedals?  You can use "toe braking" or single wheel braking of the left or right wheel to turn your aircraft sharper.  Some aircraft will only turn this way.  Rudder input does nothing to turn those planes while taxiing.  Toe braking is an important skill to know.  ;)

Thanks Jeff, I'll do the "reload aircraft" on the keyboard.  I know about toe braking being a RW pilot but I don't have pedals. :'(  You guys are so helpful, it's great! :)  And there is so much I don't know about FSX and probably will never find out.  ::)

John,
when I said you must re-load the A/C for a change in the aircraft.cfg file to take effect. I was referring to the simple procedure of going to the select aircraft screen and clicking on the same airplane you modified and then "OK" to re-load it into the sim.
FWIW you can use File Explore to open the location of the aircraft.cfg file as explained in my previous post while the sim is running.  If you shut down the sim to alter the aircraft.cfg file then the change should take effect when you load that A/C into the sim the next time you fly. 
Just modifying the aircraft.cfg file and saving it will make the change permanent but it doesn't take effect until the A/C is loaded again.
