Newbie Seeking advice on a bush plane
« on: October 04, 2015, 06:30:22 PM »
Returning to FSX after a break and just discovered RTMM and very interested.

Trying to decide on a bush plane and am undecided between:

1. Corendo C-185 Bush FSX
+ apparently a very common real world bush plane
+ strap on cargo pod, similar to the C-208
+ floats, amphibian, skis, tundra tires
   - doesn't include normal tires, minor point
   - yoke isn't removable from view, thus hiding instruments
   - not sure about the visibility out the cockpit
   - one reviewer commented the water landings seemed without friction and lasted forever, potential problem landing on a lake?

2. Aerosoft DHC-2 Beaver X
+ all five types of landing gear
+ also has been/is? a very common real world bush plane
  -  yoke also fixed, I think
  -  less range, getting range figures fro wiki and looks like the Beaver is 50 to 250 nm shorter ranged

Any advice would be appreciated, between these two or a different aircraft I haven't considered.

My "go to" is the Aerosoft Beaver...and we have some great repaints so for it. Look in the enhancements area and you will see them. Welcome to RTMM!

Hi Akmatov,
Welcome to the forum.  Glad you like it here.  I have to tell you, just click on the base of the yoke of the C-185, where it comes out of the panel and it will hide.  Also the right yoke is the same.  ;)

Personally, I cannot be separated from my Aerosoft Beaver amphibian.  But I do fly the Carenado C185F as well. (not the floatplane, but amphibian or tundra will do.)  If you use Accu-feel, from A2A, you can adjust the water friction.  Also, if you perform little "S-turns" it will slow you down.  Be sure to throttle down completely, and reduce your fuel mixture to lean (to further reduce engine power) when approaching the dock.

Again, welcome to Misty Fjords and back to FSX. Glad to have another bushy.

I like both of 'em, although I fly the Aerosoft Beaver most of the time. I use EZDOK and have configured the views for good visibility in the C-185, (and the Beaver) as well as use TrackIR for looking around. Bottom line, I don't think you can go wrong with either of them. (The C-185 engine sounds are great as well.)

Hmm, 3.5 to 0.5 for the Beaver, and:

New Sounds for Beaver X - by Steve Weinkamer

The Misty's Beaver Repaint Series - By Chris Brisland (Added 02.19.11) (I'm hoping this is for the Aerosoft DHC-2 Beaver X, it doesn't say)

And interestingly, not other aircraft suggested.  Things are looking very Beavery. :D

Yes, Aerosoft Beaver X, new sounds, Misty paint.  Can't go wrong.  It will take you anywhere, and back again.  (with a boat/bear/moose strapped to the pontoons.)  8)  Beavery, yes!!

The Maule Nor-Cal M7-260 is a fun plane to fly, also. Freeware to boot. If you're running FSX DX10 you'll probably need Steve's fixer in order for it show properly. I believe it's a Legacy plane designed in an FS9 environment. I'll attach a pic.

Very cool, look big.

Somewhere I have the serial number for a Quest Kodiak, but that has a turbine engine and will be for later as I remember the engine being a cast iron prima donna to fly.

The Quest Kodiak is completely different from the other, what I would call "vintage" aircrafts. It will take you some time to find your way and go bush flying in a rather Hi-Tech airplane. But once you get over this, it's a remarkable plane, that you can land really anywhere...
That's what they say, the real world Kodiak was created for.
Cheers
