AI world ships
« on: September 01, 2015, 03:04:57 PM »
Hi...I downloaded Nielsens AI ships for Alaska to Oregon last year and really enjoy it. Can anyone provide a link directly to all of the collection 63 AI shipping EU & S.A. etc. ? Also since there is a proper order to install all the segments should I reinstall the west coast Can/USA again? I found a few files in FLTsim.com but am looking for one page listing for all of the files required.

Thanks

Wow! The texture details are amazing and the collection is quite extensive. Rotorheads would love these especially the landable ones. :) Got some quick questions to those who have installed and actually got it working:

1) Its impact on the FPS?
2) Does it work together or conflict with installed RTMM's AISP (AI Shipping Project) enhancements?
3) Does it complement/add to or replace/overwrite default FSX or P3D AI ships and boats?

Some of the questions above may have been addressed and/or answered in their thread by some who may not be RTMM users so I wanted to hear  the experience of RTMM users who are also using these wonderful collections.

Thanks!

I did not feel an impact on my fps with the sliders as suggested by FTX, but I have a rather new system.
As far as I have experienced there are no conflicts with the RTMM AISP.
I think it has no interference with default fsx traffic. But if there is something you don't like, you always shut the default AI traffic off. Traffic bgl files are located in directory FSX/scenery/world/scenery.
I you are more technical you may want to read this for a start.

Thanks for the feedback and info reference Marcel. My new rig with 4GHz stock, not yet OC'd CPU, 4GB GPU and 16GB RAM installed and running FSX DX10 can pretty much handle what i throw in it with occasional hiccups. Installed all ship collections and my waterways are now alive! I tried flying in a watercraft laden, non-RTMM coastal area like SF bay for testing and very slight FPS impact  observed at 14% AI traffic setting  :)  I'm particular with FPS since I primarily drive helos and even the slightest FPS variances have profound effects on its complex FDE behavior especially when hovering and transitions to/from forward flight which I don't experience with fixed wing. I have yet to observe in RTMM and other areas. I like the fore wakes by the way. Super cool!  8)

Just make sure you get all of Nelsens AI shipping.  Covers most of the water bodies around the world.  There are 9 zip files of ships and 3 patches all together.
Like RTMM AI ships they do not have any noticeable effect on FSX.

Thanks a lot Spud  :) I installed all compatible files + patches by Henrik Nielsen from that link. I read its still a work in progress and updates are expected. You and Marcel just increased my helo charter and tour routes. Guess business is good!  :P Remind me for calamari rings and beer treats at Misty's when I see you both there.. ;D

UPDATE: Just recently flew at PAKT vicinity with my chopper. What a spectacular sight! I saw about 5 new boats I haven't seen before--a freighter and luxury yacht exiting Ward Cove near Totem Bight ops center, a schooner initially docked at the north harbor then sailed towards the SE near Pennock Island and a cruise liner sailing from the East towards the Ketchikan inlet. It maintained course and passed by (though too closely!) the USCG cutter which stopped and stood ground (or water in this case) as the ship approached as if the two skippers were playing "chicken"! I didn't hear any collision warning horns.  :o ;D 8)

That was quite the little installation project. Be nice to see some activity out in the doldrums, though. Thanks guys.

Thanks Spud.  That was a fix for the flags atop the masts of the AI HMS Bounty ships.  There were three (or more) flags showing, instead of just one.  The fix gets rid of the extra flags.   ;)

After applying the fix I went out, trying to spot a masted sailing ship.  No luck, but holy mackerel!!  What a ride.  I was in my HMS Endeavor, sailing out of Roche Harbor.  I had a stiff 24 knot wind dialed in, pushing me in a southerly direction.  I have never been so thrilled to be going 15 knots in my life!  With all the sounds of waves crashing, seagulls crying, and footsteps on the deck, I thought I was going to get seasick!

The Bridge.

Norwegian Jewel in Puget Sound.

I look forward to eventually finding sails on my horizon.   8)
