jaspair's NZNS elevation problems discussion
« on: August 15, 2015, 01:57:51 PM »
jaspair,
rather than waiting for you e-maill URL I'll start a discussion on the elevation problems your having at NZNS.
Elevations are incorrect for him at NZNS.
I assume your talking about FSX (DX9) as that is what I run.

As I messaged you my Nelson is OK and here are screen shots in:
1) Global mode
2) Global/Hybrid mode
3) Oceana mode.

I also disabled VECTOR entries in the FSX Scenery Library but the screen shot looked the same as shot 3.
Make sure you have not moved the location of the 5 VECTOR files in the FSX Scenery Library as that is a big no no.  The installer places them where they need to go.
Ok standing by for your answer.

Sent you a private mail, Spud. I'll bet it's the library.

Here is what Spud is referring to. This is in New Zealand SI, NZNS. Looks fine on his end. Working on maybe a library placement insertion point problem. Might be gaining on it. Will update in case others are finding occasional anamolies like this.

My installation looks like Spud's screenshots. (in my FSX)

Orbx NZSI software normally installs itself correctly among the other Orbx software.

You might scan your flight sim installation for *NZSI* if there are any other active files than in
FTX_NZSI_05_SCENERY\scenery
and
scenery\world\scenery

Do you have this file active:
scenery\world\scenery
ADE_FTX_NZSI_NZNS_elevation_adjustment.BGL
Many greetings
Dieter

Did anybody actually try landing there by any chance? Mine looked like these screen shots too, from a distance. Just before my wheels touched down it crapped out. I've got my scenery library in order, so that wasn't the problem. I'll look for the files Dieter mentioned...there's a bunch of NZSI entries to go through.

Update. After getting my scenery library in order I went back to NZNS, still set to Oceania in the Configurator, and it was still hosed up. Switched to Global and all is well and it wasn't before straightening out my library. So I think it's fixed!!

I don't think so.
This is a software to run under "Oceania" setting. So there is still something "fishy".
Many greetings

After you make changes in library order you also have to re-run the FSX Central and switch regions between Global and Oceanana back and forth, and run FSX to re-write the files so the effects take place.  Just 'fixin' the Library isn't enough.

You're right, Dieter. I switched from Global back to Oceania...still screwed up. Switched to Global Hybrid...screwed up. Back to Global without Hybrid...okay. Back to Oceania...screwed up. Why it only works in Global is above my pay grade.
The elevation adjustment file ADE_FTX_NZSI_NZNS_elevation_adjustment. BGL is set to .off but it is set that way for all the other airports I looked at too.

Patrick...I accidentally ran over Taz on the runway. The little Devil wouldn't get out of the way. Sorry.

Are you guys running P3D? In FSX (DX9) I have no anomalies at NZNS.
As my screen shots show in plain Global there is a very slight elevation to the airport above the surrounding water/mud flats that acutally looks better IMHO than either Hybrid or Ocenana.

I run FSX Gold and P3D v2.4, Global textures installed, Orbx NZSI installed, FTXCentral 2 switched to "Oceania",
I don't have "Vector".
Both simulators doesn't show any irregularity at NZNS!

Is that the one in scenery\world\scenery?
Is this because of "Vector"?
What happens if it's active?
Many greetings

Dieter,
as you do not have VECTOR then there would be no elevation adjustments made to your scenery by VECTOR.  As is always the 'rule' "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."  NZNS is not found in the VECTOR database and cannot be altered with the Configurator Tool.

Yeah, FSX Gold here, too, DX10. Vector, Global, Pilot's Global Mesh. I found there are 2 identical elevation adjustment .bgl files, actually. The active one is in scenery/world/scenery. The one set to .off is in ORBX/Scripts/Custom.au. So I would guess it's supposed to be off. So far this is the only AP in NZ I've come across that does this but I haven't flown there all that much.
