Gems
« on: June 12, 2015, 08:06:47 AM »
Since coming back to RTMM I have equipped myself with the required scenery but have mainly used the default FSX aircraft for my flying.

Am I missing out on any real "gems" in aircraft terms either freeware or payware to add to my hangar?

Thank you.

Most of the default A/C are not real good "bush" planes but will do the job, the Maule is probably the best of the bunch.  A lot of folks like the Aerosoft Beaver for the 'heavy haul work' into those tight lakes and dirt strips.  The Kodiak seems very popular as well. While the default J-3 is adequate there are some payware cubs that have much better flight  handling and realism like the A2A or Flight Replicas.

The Carenado sky wagon.  There are a few cool repaints for it as well in the repaints section.

While not truly a bush plane, Aerosoft's OV-10 Bronco has some impressive STOL performance and is just plain fun to fly.  You can get in and out of most short fields with proper airspeed management.

If you want to go everywhere, an amphib is the way to go.  The Aerosoft Beaver is quite popular, but there are a lot of options.

Thanks everyone.

I had completely overlooked the cub!

The default Maule & Beaver are great to fly but as neither have a amphibious model in FSX.  I have searched the 'net but not found any modifications to make them so.

On the suggestion of FSRobert I have bought the Carenado C185F Skywagon Bush from Just Flight.  It cost a few ££.££ as I had a stack of JF Points to redeem!  It will be installed a little later this weekend and taken for a test flight.

Many thanks again...

Is a very good bush amphip.

I believe there was an upgraded aircraft.cfg file for the C185 that greatly improved its handling but I'll be darned if I can remember where I stashed it! Anybody know the file I mean?

I've got a really nice freebie amphib for light loads that gets up fast from land or water.  It's a Republic SuperBee and it's fun to fly  ;D.  Can't remember where I found it, though  :-[.  Name of file is "superbeex_n6684k.zip".  There is also a red, white and blue texture "superbeerwb.zip".  Should be able to find them without to much trouble, I would hope  ::).
