Wake Effect for Float and Amphibian Planes
« on: April 30, 2015, 04:04:42 PM »
I have an old problem that came back when float an amphibian planes are moving in water.

I notice when I'm in slow taxi in water. I get small clumps of water from the front of the floats and along the sides of the floats. I'm not getting the smooth spray effect, like I used to. The full wake effect behind the plane is fine when moving in water.

Does anyone know what corrects or removes the clumps of spray I'm getting to a smooth spray effect?. Maybe I need a replacement effect file.

I think this subject has been here before on the forums?.

I also have the same issue when I'm in taxi mode on ground/dirt strips. Clumps of dirt, instead of dust, so to speak.

Anyway. What should I do to get rid of the clumps of water spray I'm getting.

THX

Hello George,
     You should rename your old fx_tchdrt.fx to fx_tchdrt_original.fx (or use the one provided) and replace the original fx_tchdrt.fx with the one from the download.  If your plane uses "fx_tchdrt.fx" for its effect, then you should see a difference the next time you load the plane.  ;)

     The other file "fx_tchdrt_DG.fx" is most likely a custom file.  If you add the "_DG" to your aircraft.cfg's effect line, it would use that one.  Just ignore that one.

     Which amphib are you using?  What fx files are listed in its [effects] section?  It should be right there with the fx_tchdrt.fx line.

The section should look like this:

[EFFECTS]
wake=fx_wake
water=fx_spray
dirt=fx_tchdrt
concrete=fx_sparks
touchdown=fx_tchdwn_s, 1

     The water spray in the above example is the water=fx_spray line.  You could replace it with a different "spray" effect file. (if you have one).  Or you could find one online that is modified already.  I didn't see one at the link either, but I'm sure a cure is out there.  If you have a plane that does display a decent spray, see what file it is using.  Use that one for your other plane too.  ;)

Hello again,
     Read my above post again.  You posted before I was finished with mine.  I sometimes go back after my initial response to add, change, correct, or edit for posterity and accuracy.  ;)

Hi George,
     I went into my computer and searched for the fx_spray.fx file.  I came up with several of them.  The one I was using in P3D was dated 2/9/2010, but I found one with a more recent date on it of 5/11/2014.  I am using that one for this screenshot.
     What is the date of your fx_spray.fx file, and do you have any other copies/versions on your system, like I do?
(I use a program called "Search Everything" to quickly and easily find files on my system.) ;)

Below is a comparison shot of my Aerosoft Beaver with its effects.  It does not use the fx_spray.fx file effect.

Here is the Nor-Cal Maule Amphibian.  It does use the fx_spray.fx file.  It was deactivated in my cfg, but I fixed that.  ;)

Hi George,
     Copies are files with the same name and date, but in a different folder.  Versions are files with the same file name, but a different date.  Yes, I have FSX and P3D, but found versions elsewhere too.  I have a very messy computer!   :P

    Can you post a screenshot of the spray?  I'd like to see it.   ???

Hi GrayRider,

You can upload directly to the site up to 4 pictures as long as each is less the 300KB.  Just check mark "Attachments and other options" box that appears below the white post box when you hit reply...

That's ok, I don't need to see it that bad.  You can email me by simply clicking on the email icon below my avatar.  But I had an idea.  Is my wake better than what you have?  You can try the file I am using.  Try this one to see if it works better for you.

This is a link to my dropbox.  The fx file (fx_spray.fx, dated 5/11/2014) is inside the zipfile.
Be sure to place ".off" after the original file to disable it for now, in case you want to go back to it.  ;)  Then place the enclosed fx_spray.fx file into your effects folder.  Go flying/floating and see if it's fixed.  ;)

Oh, hi Rod.  I didn't see you had posted while I was typing.   :D

Oh, I thought those were pictures of the problem you were having.   :-\  You don't need to download it again if you already tried it.  I thought you had not tried it.  The pictures look ok to me, actually.   ???
