Season Switcher 3.3
« on: February 06, 2015, 06:23:25 PM »

I downloaded the new v3.3 season switcher a little while ago. I'm not sure if I messed up the install process or not.

When I extracted the files from the zip file into a temp folder. I ran the season switcher from the temp folder and selected my season of choice. Doing this was probably not good. So I may have a problem, but not sure?.

After I did the above. I moved and added the season switcher.exe to my FSX/Addon scenery folder, which is on my F:\Drive. I did create the short cut to my desk top. I than ran the .exe again, and selected 3 for summer etc.

I than went back to my FSX/addon scenery folder looking for what's called a curseasonset.txt which is not showing up, in my addon scenery folder where the season switcher.exe is located?.

So. I'm not sure if I messed up or not?.

Note: I didn't have the previous version of the season switcher 3.2 installed.

This is my first time installing the season switcher 3.3

Hi George,
When you ran the switcher from the addon scenery directory, did it give you any error messages?  If not, then it worked fine.  ;)

Also, the txt file may not be created until after you run the switcher once.   :-\

Rod will be here in a minute to help you.   :P

That's correct Jeff.

I did run the .exe from my FSX/addon scenery folder. I didn't get any errors.

I also ran the .exe from the short cut on my desktop. No errors noted.

Does it matter where I run the .exe from. The desktop or my FSX addon/scenery folder?.

It should be above your RTMM scenery folders, as the program searches for files below it's own directory.  So putting it in the Addon Scenery folder that your RTMM folders are in is correct.  Follow the directions in the RTMM Season Switcher v3.3 Readme.txt file.  ;)

Jeff.

All I did was put just the season switcher.exe it self into my FSX/Addon Scenery Folder. The .exe is sitting at the bottom inside my addon scenery folder.

Now I'm thinking I did something wrong, even though the .exe works

Why would you think something is wrong?  Sounds OK to me.  Just go flying and see if the trees are different.  Or open the scenery folder for Gilbert Bay and then use the switcher.  You can watch it switch the files for yourself.

Hi GrayRider,

Just for correct naming purposes, I want to make sure that the .exe you put in your Addon Scenery folder is actually named RTMM Season Switcher v3.3.exe.  If you then made a shortcut for the RTMM Season Switcher v3.3.exe file, it is okay if you move the shortcut somewhere else.   After you have run the RTMM Season Switcher v3.3.exe once and selected a season and got the "RTMM Season Switcher completed successfully" message, there should be a file named curseasonset.txt in the same folder that the RTMM Season Switcher v3.3.exe is in.  If so, everything sounds like it is working okay.

Yes Rod.

The .exe I put in my FSX addon scenery folder is called/named RTMM Season Switcher v3.3.exe.

The curseasonset. txt is now showing up in my FSX Addon/Scenery folder.

I'll run the .exe again and select fall season, and go have a look at Gilbert Bay, to see what I see. etc.

Hey guys, when I run Season Switcher 3.3 I'm getting multiple msgs "A duplicate file name exists or the file cannot be found".  I have the RTMM Season Switcher v3.3 exe file in Addon Scenery and the curseason txt is there also.  I've tried removing and reinstalling the file and also the shortcut.  Searched for duplicate files and cannot find any.  The exe file does work after the error msg shows but will not make any changes.:'(  Any help would be much appreciated. 8)

I just dragged a shortcut of the .exe to my desktop. No muss, no fuss.

If you have seasonal files set to a certain season, that season is a BGL, the other seasons are OFF.  If you update your scenery folder by drag/drop new files over the existing folder, you could result in duplicates.  For example, dropping a new version with "no season" active over an older folder with "winter" active will give you a "*_winter.bgl" and a "*_winter.off" version of the seasonal objects.  Search for this kind of duplicate on your system.  Have you updated any scenery packages recently?  You must first delete the old folder, then replace it with the new one.  Then only one set of seasonal files can exist in each scene.

John,

Jeff gave a pretty good explanation on what could cause duplicates to appear.  There is additional info located under "S" in the FAQ on the main site.  Season Switcher is the first entry.  Towards the end of that section it talks about duplicate file errors.  There is a zip button where you can download a little utility that helps you find the duplicates ......
