Returning to an old friend
« on: February 20, 2011, 12:26:19 AM »
after doing some messing around with the Turbine Otter and Turbine Beaver, I decided to go and see what I could do with one of my old favorites, the Beech Staggerwing... and fittingly enough, I found an old Misty Moorings, Inc repaint to use as my test subject :)

still in progress, but here's the progress so far, after fixing the float points, redoing the texuring a bit, working on some of the effects, and fixing the chrome and propeller disk (although the prop disk isn't quite right yet either)

If at first you don't succeed, then maybe skydiving isn't such a good idea!

yeah, getting there slow and sure.. just finished toning down the panel lines so they don't look painted on, and tomorrow, I'm going to try and tackle the interior.. hopefully I can do it by resizing the bitmaps and sort of going to a more HD type image, and get some texture effect in the leather, but I'm not going to hold my breath, lol...

I agree, much too clean... am working on getting her dinged up a bit.. especially where she is sporting the old color scheme, she needs to show that she has worked for a living, not just sit in a hangar...  been working on expanding my texture collection in PSP X3, and the floats seem to be turning out pretty decent so far..  the blasted propeller disk is still giving me fits... got a lot of the fs9 to fsx transparency issues fixed, but now it is looking like a piece of glass.. just a faint reflection in it, rather than true transparency...  but all good things come to those who wait, lol...

Where's Doug?  SHOPPING IN SAVANNAH AGAIN! Oh me, she dragged me through Belks again today!  But I had my 357 and protected the credit card fairly well.

Just got to the forum and just saw the StaggerWing ... wow that is a beauty!  Wonder if there's some "history" about that plane.  That thing is a classic.  Nice job on it.  Just keep One Eye, with that bucket he's carrying, away from it for a while! :-)

well, I can't take credit for the original, now... as I said in OP, I found it... I'm just trying to get her workin in FSX reasonably decent.. first problem was that the contact points were all loused up, and then I began work on the prop and such.. this was originally an FS2002 model if I recall correctly that had minimal things done to the model to make it workable in FS2004 before SimTech went belly up and released it as freeware... The original repaint was done by David Green, and I am just working his files to see if I can get the bird in decent shape for use in FSX before CR-1 get's it done up for sale, lol... CR-1 bought all the right to the old SimTech models, and has been working to update and re-release them.. I have the CR-1 Beech 18, and it uses all the same textures and such as the old SimTech one did, but the mdl has been redone to FSX standards, and I think they redid the whole VC...  So all I am doing is making her more "presentable" and like Chris, I am pretty cranky about details, lol..
