Annette Island problems
« on: June 27, 2014, 10:43:48 AM »
Well, I installed Annette Island fly in scenery today and there is an issue for me and Prepar3D 2.2. The scenery won't stay on inside the flight. It turns off, then on. You see it, then it's gone. Also takes all the ORBX scenery away at the main airport PANT tarmac. No objects except a couple of Baron's. No hangars, nothing. Even the runway surfaces are missing.

Then it appears again and everything is showing, then gone again. If I remove Annette Island from my scenery library, all scenery at PANT appears as it should with not a hint of disappearing.

Not good.

Hello Brad,
This is a known issue with the Fly-in scenery for PANT.  It is not compatible with P3D.  Sorry.  The airport works fine without it loaded though.  So you only lose the "fly_in" event.   :'(

Really? I'll have to get up to speed with IS3 and re-create it I guess with known objects that will work. I wonder if it's the balloons? Just a hunch. Oh well, that's news to me. Thanks Jeff,

Brad

Yes, that's why I've got that one "flagged" with the NOTAM, Brad. But it is an "outlier" ... I've not found any other problems like it so there is just something screw in the bgl as you said.

Well, whereas we are talking about the P3D environment, you should get "up-to-speed" on Simdirector.  It is included in Prepar3D and is a mission and scenery creation tool specifically for P3D.  I haven't checked it out yet, but I guess since I am on vacation I've got time to do it now.  ::)

Hi,
just downoaded it again because it looks now P3D v2 ready but the problem still exists. The balloons etc. pop up only from a certain angle.
Thanks

I just tried PANT in P3Dv2 again and I have to confirm this problem.
Didn't see it before, most likely I didn't try views from different angles.

PANT 1 Balloon scenery visible
PANT 3 Balloons disappeared
PANT 2 Ballons always visible in birdview

We will have to wait till Rod gets back from vacation.  This location has really been a problem for us, and here it is again.

Is this a problem with the version dated "6/30/2014"?  ???

Hmm!!  I tested it before release, and it worked fine for me then.  I will check it out again.  :o

Edit:
I am back, after a rigorous aerobatic session over PANT in my beaver.

The crowd gave me a standing ovation, and camera shutters were clicking like crazy!!  All the hot air balloons were in attendance, as well as the vintage aircraft lined up along the runway.
It was a beautiful flight, and I did not experience any symptoms of disappearing anything during the half-hour flight.  I spent some time in cockpit and virtual cockpit view, as well as locked spot view.  I taxied around the scenery, and took off and did circuits, loops, and barrel rolls, etc.

The scenery works for me in Prepar3Dv2.2.   :-\

Well, that's quite nice for you but unfortunately not for me.  ;D Now we should find out the difference between your system and mine and the others which have the same problem.
Has it something to do with some specific settings, like "texture mesh" or so?

I think, Jeff didn't meet the correct angle to reproduce the problem.
The runway must be crossed exactly the direction that is seen in my screenshots.
Otherwise I don't have this problem either.
Many greetings

Mesh should be set at 5 meters.  All my other settings are pretty high, except for the special effect sliders are set to low, for lighter smoke effects.  I have AI traffic off.  Tessellation is at 90% and bathymetry is on.  None of those settings had an effect on the problem during testing.  I had turned everything off methodically, until I was stripped down to the bare bones, ugly, low-res, bottom of the barrel nothing at all settings.  The error was undaunted.  I told Rod all that, and he worked on the file.  What he sent back fixed it for me, and I can fly around  without the glitches occurring anymore.  I am only one person, with one computer's point of view.  We thought it was fixed.  Sorry your results are different.

What settings would you like to know about, and what are yours?   ???

Stand by, as I reproduce your screenshot angle on my computer . . .

Also, if I may add, when I had this problem it occurred at many angles, and was a major problem.  Especially when landing and taxiing.  If you only have it at one angle, and it's contrary to the runway heading, you are lucky, I'd say.  Just avoid approaching from that heading.   ;D  (just kidding!)

-----------------------

Make sure you don't have any original versions of the annette_island_fly_in.bgl in the mix.
My old version was dated 3/4/2011 1:35pm, size- 4.58 kb.
My new version is dated 6/30/2014 11:19am, size- 4.44 kb.
 ??? :-\ ::) :o ??? ::) :-\

Edit:  I am testing a copy I've just gotten from the scenery library, so I can see what you are seeing.  The downloaded file is dated 6/30/2014 3:46pm, size 3.69 kb.  That is different than mine.  I don't know why.  Stand by . . .
Ok, I am back.  Did ya miss me?
I rebooted my sim after swapping out the bgl files.  I flew all around the area, and slewed at different anges and elevations.  The scenery is still working as it should for me.  Sorry about that.   :-[

(picture would've looked exactly like the shot above, so I didn't take another one.)  ;)
