Two New Locations (PNW)
Two new scenery locations are ready for download. As with all of our new locations, you can find both in the "start table" on the Here2There page and on the interactive GoTo table. Flight Plans are available in the RTMM Flight Plans.zip (Here2There page). Just redownload the new one and REPLACE the old one (do not overwrite...replace).
Big Creek Lodge PF61 - By Doug Linn
Big Creek Lodge (fictitious) is a new RTMM Airport. It is just (3 miles) outside the ORBX PNW region, but close enough. You can get to it from Twin Lakes or even the Vancouver area (90 mile flight). This locations features 3 lodges, all connected with a road system to the airport parking area. There is an amphibian pull out and a float plane dock. The Amphib pullout has a connecting taxiway to the main airstrip complex. The airstrip has a 360 turn-around on each end of the runway. A helipad is available.
You can "Go to Airport" using PF61 Big Creek Lodge. The NDB frequency for the new airport is 261.The complex is equipped with night lighting allowing you to land there at night. The taxiways are "blue lit" and there are approach lights out in the water for marine operations. For night navigation, all the marine (floats) navaids are "blinking". Keep the Red to your right as you taxi to the float plane dock (where there is fuel) and the amphib pullout.
This is a very interesting area to fly. It is at 4000 feet, with mountains around going up to 7000 feet. Beautiful river valleys and majestic snow-covered mountains.
We will be making some places to fly to from Big Creek Lodge so you can better see and appreciate this beautiful area ... all of those locations will be "inside" PNW. The first of these is Silt Lake Cabin. (See Below). There are many beautiful "hidden" lakes that will be fun to fly to. As you look at this area, if you see a unique potential location, please let us know. You can find Big Creek Lodge PF61 under "B" on the RTMM Scenery Page.
Silt Lake Cabin - By Doug Linn
This is a small cabin on Silt Lake, a runoff from a nearby glacier. At the outflow from the lake to the river, there is a "water anomaly" (water ridge). The lake is about 7 feet higher than the river, so there is a drop off. Usually, I use a "water flatten" to get rid of these, but this particular one is perfect for creating a waterfall beside the cabin. So this one has some special eye candy.
From Big Creek Lodge, at 4200 feet, you'll need an altitude of 6700 feet to cross over the mountain ridge, then you drop back down to about 3000 feet for the landing. The cabin is on the near shore, be low and slow coming at the lake.
The lake freezes in winter, so be ready to land with ski landing gear if you are flying in Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb, Mar, April, and May. Find Silt Lake Cabin under "S" on the RTMM scenery Page.
NOTAM: Spud's computer is causing problems, so he was not able to do the QC on these. Norm Richards helped me. But Norm and I both miss Spud's eye for detail. So there may be a little problem here or there that we will fix if you point them out to us.
