The CFG files for FSX and SCENERY
« on: February 12, 2014, 04:47:15 PM »
Something I'm curious about. The Scenery.CFG file is one that you really must SAVE if you are moving between P3D and FSX (DX10). Before I leave, I save those files. When I go "back" I have to put those archived files back in. Right now I'm uninstalling P3D to put in the new version (1.4).

I'm finding the scenery.cfg files in two places ...

1. Program Data / Microsoft / FSX / Scenery.cfg
2. Users/Name/AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/FSX/Scenery.cfg

I'm finding the fsx.exe file in three places ...

1. FSX/fsx.cfg
2.  Users/Name/AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/FSX/fsx.exe

If you were going to "archive" so you'd have your latest fsx or scenery.cfg file ... which would you use?

Doug

Doug,
Answer to question 1 is  Program Data / Microsoft / FSX / Scenery.cfg. Compare the dates of the 2 files; the Users/Name/AppData/Roaming/Microsoft/FSX/Scenery.cfg location was put there when FSX was installed. Location #1 is the last scenery.cfg created when your scenery library is changed or recompiled.

Not sure what you mean about in 3 places in #2. You listed 2 places and the first one is for FSX.cfg.

Sorry Steve, I meant two.  So the one in the Users area is the one to archive?

Yep. Check the dates of both files to make double sure you have the right one.

Above answer is correct.
The only active scenery.cfg for FSX under WIN7 is in:
Program Data/Microsoft/FSX/Scenery.cfg

Active means=> only these datas are read by FSX. You can compare for example when switching FTXCentral bewtween  North America and another area. (before and after)  This active  scenery.cfg will be changed.

Doug,
looks like there is some confusion between folks.  You are speaking of the "SCENERY.CFG" file and not the FSX.CFG file correct?
If so, then the correct one is C:/ProgramData/Microsoft/FSX folder.  It should have a date close to today's date.  The other location in Users/xxxxx will be dated in 2007 (that be the WRONG one)!!
Your original post says:
Right now I'm uninstalling P3D to put in the new version (1.4).
I thought the new version was 2.1???
