Euro Truck Simulator 2
« on: December 07, 2013, 11:32:13 AM »
I recently purchased ETS2 and have been trucking my way around Europe in a big rig.  It is really getting in the way of my re-install of FSX.  I will get it though.  Between hauls.   ;D

Seventy-five ton locomotive engine is a piece of cake for my new 1500 horsepower engine
(Oh, and don't try to outrun the cops around here.)

Yes, but have you tried taking something that big through a French tollbooth yet?

I've got the game but I'm still not very far into it.  Need to get another external drive (and TrackIR 5 as well) so I can shunt some of my files onto it.  My Steam folder takes up over 150 GB already and I haven't installed all their games yet! My Train Simulator 2014 is currently at 23+ GB and Rome II: Total War will clock in at 30+ GB when I finally buy it.  Remember the old days when big games took up several MB of space?

Yeah, it's fine if my truck is quick enough off the line to beat the arm.  I have no problem.  It's a beast.  But I just lost a load due to a toll booth error.  I was driving in the ProMods Scandinavia map, and hauling a 60T M1A2 Abrams Tank.  The toll booth never triggered to let me pay the toll, so the gate never came up.  After trying several different solutions I finally had to unload the map, cancelling my load and sending me back to my garage.  It was going to be worth $44,000.  Oh well.  (There's no way around those toll booths, either.)

It all has to do with where the game determines where the end of the truck is located.  Since there are no oversize trailers in the vanilla game, that point is farther forward than a modded trailer allows for.  Mods only replace vehicles already in the game.  They don't supplement them.  The code really needs to be opened up a bit more to allow the modders to create longer or truly articulated vehicles.

There is a mod available that eliminates the toll barriers and lets you drive straight through without stopping or paying.  Can't remember if it affects anything else, though.

I will look for that mod.  I like going through and paying toll, though.  I've taken that trailer through other toll booths, and it worked fine.  That booth was in Rostock, going to Scovde, I think.  In Sweden.  It's a toll booth after a long bridge.

I think I will just avoid that Scandinavia map.  It is buggy.

Yay, the 1.8 update is out.  Steam fixed me up.  When I started the sim, it was showing brand new version numbers.  I had to disable the Scandinavian map to get it to work though.  That's ok.

You were hauling a tank and couldn't get through a toll booth? Unload that puppy and forge your own path. Screw the toll workers. How could they stop you or argue with a tank?  Oh wait. Maybe I'm thinking Grand Theft Auto. ;D
