Impending return to FL
« on: July 10, 2013, 05:52:28 PM »
Hi people,
due back in FL on 7/14/13 but may be awhile before I'm too active as I just got word from home my son is hospitalized with a perforated colon.  Surgery went well but he is in ICU at the present time.

Hi guys,
thanks for the thoughts for my son.  Got in about 1600 CDT yesterday after a 2644 mile journey.  My vacations seem to be getting the better of me.
Last year I came home to find my friend and companion of 34 years in the hospital.  She was suffering from lung cancer and I brought her to my home until it was necessary to use a nursing home.  The whole reason for the trip this year was to scatter her ashes where she wanted to be, in Idaho.
Now I come home to a seriously sick son.  He is still on a ventilator but being slowly weened form his sedatives and blood pressures meds.  Hope he keeps up the progress.  Of course I'm worried but hopeful.
I have a great deal of catching up to do FS wise and Halibut Cove emails are filling up my inbox so I have to get back up to speed on that project ASAP.  I believe the release is pending soon so I just have to look at what was submitted while I was in the boondocks.  Rod and crew have really outdone themselves and I think everyone will agree to that when the project is released.

Tomorrow will start the second week my son has been in Intensive Care and still not a lot of change.  Today update is better however.  His fever has gone, chest tube out, IV for antibiotics still in.  Trying to ween him off the ventilator for a few days now.  This morning he pulled the tube out himself although still not fully awake.  They put a mask on him to aid breathing and will see if they have to replace the ventilator tube or not.  Sure do wish this would pass and thing return to normal.

Hi Spud,

Every little bit of progress helps.   It takes a long while for the body to recover but it does sound like he is making progress.  Praying that his rate of progress speeds up over the next week......

Thanks for your concern fellas but unfortunately there has been very little change.  Had to return him to the ventilator and he still is not awake or improving but he isn't going downhill either so it is still a waiting game.  I'm not too good at that however.
