We all know that flying in the bush isn't without its risks, no matter where it is. But, Alaska offers special challenges and rewards for bush aviators, including extreme terrain and weather, vast area, remoteness, and serious wind. Yesterday, a DHC-3 Otter went down in flames at Soldotna, on the Kenai Peninsula, with 10 souls on board. There were no survivors. Very sobering and cause for reflection, at least for me.

While sitting in the comfort of my sim, I honor the bush aviators around the world who perform their important function of transporting people and supplies in and out of remote, and often dangerous, locations. "Here, here!" (Raises a pint in the air.)
