Looks like you're having graphic spike problems. Are you getting an OOM or does FSX crash shortly when this happens? This used to happen to me in DX9 from out of nowhere just before an OOM crash. This is not related to a UTX problem. Take a look at the DX10 support forum at Avsim and check out the DX10 "How To Guide". There's info on how to set up an ATI card for DX10  in there. Please post back with your findings!

http://forum.avsim.net/topic/387343-the-how-to-doc/

Here's a direct link to the "How To" PDF.

Thanks Steve for the links,
I have revisited the "How-to" doc and set up my system again, as shown.  I went for a test flight afterwards.  I still have the graphic spikes after flying for a half hour or so.  No CTD when it happens though.  I have "Cleanmem" AND "Smart RAM" running.  My ASC system monitor is in "Gaming mode" (which I don't usually bother to use).

I just switched locations from PEC to KGCN.  The change made no difference in the glitches.   ???

I think I should uninstall the DX10 fixer, shaders, and the previous patches.  Then reinstall the fixer.

Patrick,
Yes, my graphics card is clean.  It's running at @50 C. when I am flying.   8)

What happens if you switch to DX9 mode using the Fixer control panel?

It switches to DX9.  Not sure what you mean.

I've reinstalled the fixer and switched it back and forth.  The problem is still there, and is only in DX10 mode.

OK. I just wondered if the problem quit when switching modes with the fixer. Sounds like your video card doesn't like something and you need to find the right settings. I'd post screenshots over at Avism and I'd bet you can find an answer pretty quickly.  Hang in there. What piques my interest is that it cropped up from nowhere after you had already been using DX10 for a while, if I understand correctly.

Jeff,
Another wild, stab in the dark question for you. Have you recently installed any MS updates? A while back (last winter) one of the MS updates  -  KB2670838 -  that updated on both of my Win7 boots. It totally screwed my system to the point of where FSX wouldn't even execute and my Windows Live Mail wouldn't load on either system, among other problems. It took me a day of hair pulling to figure out that the culprit was that one particular MS "fix". Fortunately I was able to uninstall it and could fix the problem.

I just flew for 3 hours in DX10 with no spikes.  I flew from KGCN to KLAS.  I flew around Las Vegas and landed.  Then I "teleported" to PAKT and taxied from one end of the runway to the other, then parked.  No glitches so far.  I have disabled my UIautomationcore.dll file.  With only one test flight so far, I am reserving speculation for a later date.  I will turn it back on and see if they come back.  But it's late, and I gotta go to bed.  I've got the day off tomorrow, so I'll be back at it early in the morning.  ;)   G'nite.  :P

Very strange Jeff. Before the problem cropped up had you been doing anything that put a load on your graphics card - like Photoshop, watch a video, etc. that may have left something retained the video memory? OR - did it happen after a clean boot? I can't imagine that your UIautomationcore.dl is the culprit, but who knows? Glad it seems to be working now, even after a 3 hour flight! Keep us posted.

Also, another thought: Have you leaned down your FSX.cfg and set it up with minimal tweaks as suggested in the DX10 doc?

I flew most of the day with various aircraft, from Botswana to Victoria Falls, Miami to the Everglades, Edmonton to Calgary, Arkansas to Tennessee, and maybe other places I forgot.  I am still scratching my head.  I have had flights that were beautiful for hours, then all of a sudden the glitches start.  A reboot is the only way to clear them up for a bit.  I was trying to see if flying outside of an Orbx "Region" would make a difference.  I had fewer, or no glitches in non-Orbx areas (FTXG hybrid mode), like Miami and Arkansas, and Botswana.  Edmonton was terrible, trying to fly to Calgary.  I don't believe it is an Orbx issue though.  Maybe the Orbx scenery is just busier, more complex.  Changing mesh resolution seems to have some effect on the glitches severity.

I re-activated the UIAutomationcore.dll file, as it wasn't the cure.  I unistalled that KB###### update, but that didn't fix it either.  Correction, I THOUGHT I unistalled it.  I just went to "reinstall" it, and it's already there.  My head hurts!  I'm going to bed now.

I use the Orbx FTX launcher called FSXGo, with all the recommended settings applied to my profile.  I will contemplate creating a fresh fsx.cfg file tomorrow.  It's late now.  I will be glad when this is solved, but it's no big deal that it's happening.  It doesn't crash my sim, and DX10 is sooooo nice when it's working.  I don't want to go back to DX9 anymore.   :P

:o     OH, one other thing before I close.  While I was flying, I spent way too much time trying to figure out why my Plan-G would not show my yellow plane in the center of the map, or follow my plane.  It wouldn't load my present location either.  But it did display my Lat and Lon, airspeed, elev., etc. at the bottom edge.  So it was reading my plane, but not showing it.   ???
I want to tell anyone in that situation, PRESS the F6 KEY while in Plan-G.  I wish I knew that before I started troubleshooting my network connection, and Plan-G program!  After pressing F6, the little yellow plane popped up, and the map started moving.  Yay!!  Now I know.   :-[  I wanted to share that info.  Thanks for reading. ;)

Jeff, it has to be a graphics card memory issue. The fact that it goes away after a reboot is pretty telling I think. Post your problem over at Avsim. Please post your FSX.cfg here and let me see it. I had similar problems way back when with DX9 because of a ton of unneeded crap in my .cfg (Nvidia card.) You're problem can most likely be fixed. Hang in there buddy!

EDIT:
Found this ATI huge thread at AVSIM.

http://forum.avsim.net/topic/404430-optimal-settings-for-ati-users-with-fsx-great-results/

ALSO this discussion revolving around Radeon cards and settings:

http://forum.avsim.net/topic/411488-back-to-fsx-and-new-to-dx10-perfs/

From my quick reading, it sounds like you have a monster of a card!

Thanks . . . reading now.  ;)

Here's some pictures while you're waiting.

My water reflections:

And a couple of "wide shots".  These are "fakey" shots made by squishing my FSX window height to 1/3rd.  I am anticipating the arrival of 3 42" Viewsonic LED monitors, and already have a "TripleHead2Go" waiting.  I am wigging!!  I hope my room is big enough at 10x10, and I can still get in and out with my swelled head! ;D

Holy crap, Jeff!   42" Viewsonics!  I have 3 24" Viewsonics with a TH2Go and the stretch from the left screen edge to the right screen edge is well over 4 feet and they are in a curved mounting.    If you put those 42 inchers side by side the span from one end to the other must be over 9 feet.  You will have one whole wall of screens....that's pretty cool  8).

After using this one 42" Panasonic, I've gotten use to the height of the screen.  I can't go back to the squatty, little twenty something monitors, when placed side-by-side.  So, it's the "Wall of FSX" for me.
I was thinking of putting them in a corner, in a semi-circle.  Not sure yet.  Actual setup is probably a month away.  I'm not rushing it.  I've got to rearrange my room yet.  Move the desk to the corner, and clear out a ton of junk.
I am concerned about power consumption and heat dissipation in my little room.  I have a window with a fan, and a door to the outside, and the hallway door to the house is on the opposite side.  It is fall now, so the  air temps will be cooler.  Nothing like it is in Florida though.  You've got to have A/C, eh?
