Plan-G or Sim Launcher
« on: January 26, 2013, 09:28:55 AM »
After much trial and error, I finally have:

1) Prepar3D install;

2) A working copy of P3D called "P3D PFJ RTTM" as a stand alone dedicated scenario.

To those using P3D, do you prefer Plan-G or Sim Launcher? I know there's a work around for Plan-G for use with P3D. I haven't used either yet; that's my next step.

Thanks for the look and any advice or insights.

I use both.  I use SimLauncher to start/create a flight.  It's easier for the testing I do so I am not creating a bunch of flightplans - mostly hand-flying, testing airports, doing circuits.   But I use Plan-G mostly as a follow map.  I suppose if I was creating flightplans I would go with Plan-G since you cannot create a plan with SL, only load them.

FYI - I use the older version of Plan-G (one version back from current), with Prepar3D on a separate laptop.  Works great.

Since I'm working from scratch and RTTM flight planning is upper most, I'll start getting acquainted with the suggested Plan-G version.

Thanks!

Why not using both?

The programs are different:
- PlanG is a flight planning and navigation tool.
- SimLauncher replaces the (sometimes defective) odd and old FSX main menu and offers additional functions
(still in further development)

Rob,
I found it on Avsim. You have to be registered there for downloads.
Type in simlauncher in Avsim`s library search for column, and you get it.

Or try this:
http://library.avsim.net/search.php?SearchTerm=simlauncher&CatID=root&Go=Search

You also need Pete Dawson`s Make runway utility (see simlauncher readme.pdf file on page 2)
You can get it here:

Thanks Klaus!  Got them both and about to install.  I used to use Pete's  Make Runways when I was a beta tester for Radar Contact.  Right now I don't even have RC installed as I rarely get above 5,000 and fly mostly VFR these days.    :o
