Where Eagles fly...
« on: February 09, 2011, 02:38:52 AM »
...there man makes a poor imitation.

for those who like human-launch flight, there's a road out of the Totem Bight area that leads sort of North east and then switchbacks up the hill to a small "roost" where the hang-glider nutters can go take a running jump. (Yet to be submitted and added)

One eye, you really are good at this scenery placement and ideas.  Seems like RTMM is a endless void to have fun in.

I didn't realise it at the time, I'll swear to that, but I have set that small hang glider launch spot at a great location. There's an FSX built-in thermal just forward and left after launch and you can circle for hours there. I just have been. It tops out at around 5000 but for a hang glider, it's great.

By the way, I like gliding and have quite a lot in the hangar here too. Glider strip with a winch next? Or air tow?

Anyway, here I am at around 5000 wondering when I'll be able to come down... I don't have a bottle on board and "raining" on Totem Bight is not on, is it?

In the picture you can see I am heading over my launch point. The view over the FTx Pacific Fjords area from up here is simply amazing! I don't think it'd take much doing to even reach the paintshop strip over the water from here.

Also very much worth having if you are into gliding are Sim-Probe, CumulusX and WinchX. Cumulus X gives you "real" ridge soaring effects and winch X gives you a might powerful winch. Now.. let me see about crossing the water to Eagleskinner's place...

Well, much to my surprise, I made it across the water to the Ketchikan side and rounded the headland with more than enough height to spare. With my home base so far below, I decided to head on over toward's Misty's place and see if the old gal has got a brew of tea on the go.

Much to my even greater surprise, I am now overhead Misty's and I am still higher than my launch point. Quandary... do I fly back to my place or do I drop in to Misty's for tea and maybe some prime T-bone?

What a no-brainer! I'm pulling the drag out and going down here!

Never tried gliding before, but this makes it tempting. Anything that gives greater views into the scenery can only be a good thing.
