Which Multi-Player experience to use?
« on: February 07, 2011, 04:50:06 PM »
I'm currently going through several muti-player experiences that we might try out here at RTMM.

So far, I've only tried out "Game Spy" with FSX.

What would you recommend as the overall winner for FSX multi-player options we should use here at RTMM?

Just wanted to know what our guests with experience prefer.

Thanks,
Brad

Maybe for the right consideration, perhaps Francois has space and bandwidth?

FS Host isn't bad except for the jerkiness due to the time delay between polling.

Some MP flights/sight seeing would be great!  I knew I'd see this topic eventually.  Yea!

FSHost works fine and allows both FS9 and FSX to operate together but you need to have the users limit frame rates.  The VA (FreedomAir) I operate with has fly ins every two weeks and uses FSHost and Teamspeak 2 and usually have pretty smooth sessions.  All players need to turn off any firewall they have on their system, limit FPS to 30 and have the same A/C in their hangar.  If you do not have say the Carenado C185 in your hangar you will see all those using the C185 as C172's.

My 'donation ware' server is still up and running. Not much used currently, only the Emma Field people and the occasional VA manning their sessions it seems. There's FSHost and TS running on it.

But if more and more folks are 'against' FSHost, then 2011 will be the last year that I can fund it, unless I can run something else on it. I'm not an expert.

Francois,
as you already have a server with FSHost and Teamspeak up and running and lightly used it would seem to be the quickest solution to utilize that combination.  I think most opposition is due to the 'resistance to change or try something new syndrome' most folks harbor.  Although the ability of FSHost to run FS9 and FSX together is not a requirement for RTMM it still provides the opportunity for FS9 folks to have a multiplayer server at their disposal.
