What do our experts say?

Also read postings here:
http://forum.avsim.net/topic/382811-dxtfixer-utility/

Additionally there is a tool offered for searching and fixing all faulty files.

This might be a problem of our old FS2004 libraries used in RTMM sceneries.

Hi Dieter,

Interesting.....I can't really test since I don't have any significant stutters so I wouldn't know if it fixed anything.  Maybe someone else will know.....

I'm always one to jump both feet into the abyss, so I acquired the download and am running it, I think.  I started it up, and the window says "(not responding)", but the hard drive light indicates that something is going on.  Hmmm, it just closed itself.  I wonder if it worked.  There is a logfile that was generated.  I need to see what that says.  Wow, it appears to have done something, indeed.  Now to go flying and see if it's any "smoother".  It switches the "alpha channel" on, for bmp and dxt3 and dxt5 files that are off.  No fps increase is implied or expected.  Just a smoother texture delivery.  Wish me luck.

Here's the contents of the log.txt file:

Ok, I'm back.  Well, . . . I don't know.  It seems to be exactly the same to me.  I don't think anything is broken though, so all's well that ends . . . well.  :-\

When you run  the tool
- dxtfixerx.exe
first mark
"Just report bad files(no files will be altered"

This way only a report is written after scanning the files.
By reading the created "log.txt" you can see if FSX texture files on your harddisk are affected.

BTW, you don't have to check the complete FSX installation, you can choose single folders.

Might be interesting but personally I'll wait for more reports as to what or if it makes any differences.

Hindsight is twenty/twenty.  ;)  I scanned and "fixed" the entire FSX directory and subs.  No ill effects so far.  :-\

Hi....
I´m also jumped in into this thread....and testing this tool now.

I scanned my FSX Installation and got a log-file with lots of detected files. A lot of them were EZ and OZx libraries contents.....I fixed them and I´m now testing the coming days if there`s any noticed improvements.

O.k., let`s wait and see........

I could probably use this tool as well.

It's so far over my head.I wouldn't know what I was doing.I'd probably need some voice support,to get thru something this complex.Maybe even a tutorial of some type etc.
