Scenery Folders Placements and Object Library Priorities
« on: August 17, 2012, 04:15:50 AM »
First of all many thanks for this great information and also the library testing tool. :)

I have Tongass Fjords and it would be great to have this placed in the Scenery Library Priority rough example list to help people installing the software.  8)

This is a subject people avoid for some reason. I took a stab at it on the new object library page, that's the rough order I use. But it could be up side down for all I know. So I posted it and am ready to be flamed for having it wrong... So far no attacks... Did I get it right?  When we have a definitive answer then I'll make a nice graphic that will better explain it. But for now, I'm really not sure. We have to get that section of the page correct. It is very important.

Doug,
In the Scenery Library Priority section you should have the object libraries at the top, not the scenery folders.   ;)

1.  Object Libraries
2.  RTMM scenery
3.  OZx
4.  Orbx/FTX
5.  All non-orbx scenery
6.  Default FSX folders

Win10Pro64, MSFS 1.25.9.0, P3Dv4.3.29.25520, AMD Ryzen7 1800X@3.6 GHz , 32Gb RAM, GTX 1080 Ti, 2x42" Vizio Monitors, HTC Vive VR HMD, Saitek Yoke/Pedals/trim wheel, XBox360 Controller, G27 steering wheel w/shifter+pedals. :P

I have mine exactly like Jeff is showing and have no display problems at any site.   The new scenery objects page is very nice.   I activated the RTMM scenery test and went to PANT.  I quickly found out I hadn't added then new Snowdogs library.  Got it in and activated and all is well.   I really like how each of the 12 objects in the scenery test is numbered with a corresponding explanation of what is needed, plus a link to go get it.  Brilliant!  The only tiny mistake I could see was near the very bottom where it suggests you switch FTX Central to Australia if you're going to fly there.  It's now called "Oceania" instead after the release of FTX NZSI and FTX NZNI.

ALL USERS,
please stand by for further update by Rod on the order of the FSX Scenery Library.  I think he has made it much easier to understand for all of us.  Doug, jump in here whenever Rod's explanation is available for all of us to read.

Rod has put up a new section in the Object Library Priority area ... (keep in mind, this is a "work of art in progress".  People across the Flight Sim world just seem not to agree on this at all, that's why I put it up to draw some "fire" ...  Take a look at what is there now.

Hello,

I had read previously that we should place the objects libraries at the top and sceneries below, as noted by Jeff. And that's what I have done.
It is no longer the case ?

Hi Handie,
It's alright to have them at the top.  It was discussed that the object libraries could reside below, or above the scenery, with no problems.  But since the scenery is generally worked with more, it may be easier if they were on top instead.  Once you install the object libraries, you shouldn't have to mess with them any more.  So they could be down below and out of the way, so to speak.   ;)

Jeff is quite right.  Object libraries can be on top or below but, we have shown them below because when you load a new RTMM scenery folder into FSX, FSX puts the folder on top by default.  Since most of us load a lot more new scenery folders than we do object libraries, it just made more sense to keep the RTMM object libraries below the RTMM scenery folders.  In that way, when you add a new RTMM scenery you can get right to flying with out having to move it in the library.

Seems there are many ways to set up the folders and get good results.   I have all my object libraries installed into FSX\AddonScenery folder and preface each of them with "aaa" sot they always stay at the top.  All my RTMM sceneries are under a folder called RTMM......... as in FSX\AddonScenery\RTMM.   I've never had a problem and all my object libraries are easy to find and update if necessary.

Hey Rob,

I actually keep all my RTMM object libraries in a folder named RTMM Object Libraries that is inside the Addon Scenery folder.  So basically, accomplishing the same thing as you so I can keep track of them.

Hi Rod,
Do you then have separate folders within your RTMM Object Libraries folder as well, to keep each library separate in case of updates to one of them?  I'm guessing, YES!    :D

Hi Rob,

Yep, you are correct!  I still keep each object library separate.
