Transfer RTMM folders vs. new installation
« on: July 08, 2012, 10:22:50 AM »
I´v a brandnew rig, with new OS (WIN7/64) installation, new installation of FSX etc...
Can I just transfer my RTMM folders and the needed Libraries to the Addon Scenery Folder in the new FSX installation, then activate it one by one in the FSX-Scenery-Lib
or
have I go the long way and install everything one by one again? (Would be a rather long way, cause I´ve  nearly all (?))

Thanks in advance
Rainer

By the way, thanks again for the brillant work and the beautiful sceneries and all the other stuff. It opens a totally new dimension for my flight simming experience.

Good morning Rainer,
You may transfer your RTMM and library folders in bulk, copy/paste to your new addon scenery folder.  There is no action required by the registry file, or worry about orphaned files.  All is contained within each scenery folder.  I did it that way with no problems when I got my new SSD.  So much easier than finding each zipfile and reinstalling one at a time.  Good luck, and congratulations on the new system. ;)

Oh, don't forget to "add" each folder to your new scenery library list in FSX.  (then reboot)  Otherwise, they won't show.

Good night Jeff (it´s getting dark here in Augsburg, Germany),
thanks for the quick answer and the congratulations.
That are really good news, I will do that way and report back how it works!
 Have a nice day!
Cheers Rainer

I've been to Augsburg a few times, when I was in the army in 1985-1986.  I was stationed in Aschaffenburg.  Very nice country and atmosphere, and I miss it.   8)

Hi Rainer,
congratulations to your new system. I also did the change two months ago.

this world is a small place it seems. I´m actually living and working in Munich, Germany (that is not really far away from Augsburg). I was born nearby Würzburg which isn`t also not far away from Aschaffenburg.

Hello Jeff, Corbu ( grias´di; although I´m not a native Bavarian, I was born in Frankfurt, lived a long time in Mainz), GrayRider, and all the others,

(after a little while) thanks for your gentle commnents concerning your good German experiences and your congratulations for the new system.
I did it how Jeff suggested, transferrred all the RTMM-sceneries to the new rig (World\scenery-,effects-, sound-files too). After some minor querries, everything is fine now and I´m up-to-date with everything.
Nevertheless I didn´t at all have time to fly, but in the future I will  ;D ;D.
At least when  my new little "flying-room" (not a cockpit, just a little room in our house beneath the roofgarden ) is ready. Our "chief-"craftsman and I will do the work within the next few weeks.
A the moment  only a little  makeshift place with the new rig, just for doing the (sofware-) installations and customize the maschine.
Sorry for being lengthy
Happy flying  (and if possiblein RTMM area always clear skies)
Rainer

I'm glad it worked for you, Rainer.  I've always done it that way.  I guess I am just too lazy to "re-install" everything from scratch.  But, hey.  It works.  I, too, do my flightsimming in a very small room and a 42 inch monitor on the desk that nearly fills the room.  It feels kinda like a cockpit, now that I think of it.   ;D
