Work is progressing on the update to Misty's Place. Doug and I have been actively working on a lot of things to our home base. Here's some night time lighting I'm working on currently. I wanted to keep Misty's Place in a soft light and not reliant on typical airport lighting with strobes, taxiway lights, etc. So, playing around with things I came upon a really nice effect using some of Steve Weinkamer's excellent lighting effects he created. I'm very happy with these results.

General Discussion / Tribute Scenery for "Spud"
« on: December 06, 2018, 01:10:11 PM »
Hi,

With the recent passing of our friend, "Spud", I felt that I wanted to help keep his legacy alive somehow at RTMM. So, what better way than to come up with a little tribute scenery location in his honor.

I had a small airstrip scenery location near Yakutat, AK that I'd been working on in my spare time for several years now but real life kept getting in the way of it's release. When Spud passed away unexpectedly, I knew immediately what I wanted to do.

So I put the final touches on "Spud's Beasley Creek Retreat". It has a tricky approach where you follow the winding creek to one end of the dirt strip. Or you can fly past and discover a beautiful Glacial Lake near the other end of the airstrip. There is seasonal scenery in place with trees and grasses that change using our Seasonal Switcher. Special thanks to Mike Broemme  who did a great job making the airstrip itself change with the seasons. If you arrive in winter, you'll see it covered in snow and ice. Also look for some other little touches that help make it "Spud's". The flags near the porch of the main cabin have the state flag of Idaho, where he was born. The US Navy flag which Spud served in as a Naval Aviator. The POW/MIA flag, United States flag and State of Alaska. And a very small cabin across the lake near the Glacier.

You should now be able to download this special place on our scenery page under "S".

Rest in Peace "Spud"!! You'll be missed.

Addon Scenery and Enhancements / SIRP Scenery for P3D v4??
« on: August 29, 2018, 01:21:20 PM »
Hello,

I'm looking for the SIRP Scenery and can't seem to find that anymore. The link is inactive on the scenery page. Sorry if I've missed the reason why but I'm not in the loop since work has been so busy for me.

Thanks

Misty Flying Club and Multi Player / P3D v4.3 and Cigar Box
« on: July 26, 2018, 11:26:07 PM »
Hello,

After a new install of P3D v4.3, the Cigar Box app is not playing well for the first go around in the new sim. I installed the latest version from what's in the MFC downloads.

However, when trying to just fly a charter, it says "Aircraft not on the Ground" and it won't load.

Even though I'm not in slew mode and definitely on the ground, the client won't upload.

Settings unchecked the search by flight number so could I please get an assist on this so I can get back into the game again?

Thank you

Misty's Place / Prepar3D V4.3 Not Working
« on: July 22, 2018, 01:04:57 PM »
Well Crap!!

Installed Prepar3D v4.3, and it started up with the main menus showing for configuration, etc. I didn't start messing with any setting adjustments or tweaks, just changed to the Maule aircraft and took off from Eglin AFB to try things out. FPS was through the roof at over 100 but of course the settings were very light.

Landed and then had to shut down to do something else. Started the next session and changed some settings to see how I might be able to push the envelope and apparently, not very far. Now even though I have a Titan X, a lot of ram, and what I believe to be a pretty beefy system, now all I see is a black screen. I can see the menu but no matter if I back the settings down to zero, no cockpit view appears at all. Just a black screen.

Anybody else with Prepar3D v4 have any suggestions for me? It would be much appreciated. I read about there being bugs with old remnants of video card drivers causing this to occur so I'll try to see if I can remove them and try again but thought I'd ask my friends here at Misty's first.

Thanks
Brad

Misty Flying Club and Multi Player / Tropical Charters for MFC
« on: July 21, 2018, 03:53:45 PM »
I've enjoyed doing charter work for MFC in various warmer climates. This club and Cigar Box is a powerful combination and interface and really gives lot's of choices for us all.

Just wanted to say thank you to Doug and Henry and Norm for giving us such a great new distraction here at RTMM to help keep me blissfully unaware of all the political poison out there in the world.

Misty's Place / Caribbean Break
« on: July 21, 2018, 03:48:07 PM »
So,

After finishing up part 4 of BWEP: Dalton Highway, I needed a break from the pipeline. I love the scenery but miles and miles of pipe fitting has left me burned out and I just want to getaway from that. This project has two more long legs to go but I need a break.

Now, my work schedule has left me with a lot less seat time than I would like lately and when I do sit down with the sim, I just want to fly and relax and not do any scenery design. So, lately, I've been taking in the sights in warm tropical climates like Hawaii Photoreal and UTX TAC. (Ultimate Terrain X Tropical America and Caribbean) It's a nice break but lately, the OOM errors have increased with the sim. (Prepar3D v2.5) So I finally caved in and got v4.3. Now I just need some time to get it installed properly, configured and tweaked a little bit.

Then I'll need to install all the RTMM stuff again and start from scratch. I know that Instant Scenery doesn't work in v4 but my work around is to have a copy of FSX on the system I can use to design with. That practice will continue.

Oh well, just saying hello since I've not been so frequently stationed here at Misty's Place. I'll be back and will probably have some questions for users of v4 I'm sure once I finally install the damn software!!

General Discussion / Time to upgrade Prepar3D
« on: April 06, 2018, 04:29:43 PM »
Yep. It's time. I've been hanging on to Version 2.5 for as long as I can stand it. No more. Too many CTD's and memory related failures. It's too frustrating. Today, while flying my last leg of the MFC tour I was on, I got the "Prepar3D needs to close" message pop up just as I was approaching my final descent. I was able to reload the sim, then land and complete the flight but that was the final straw. More and more the duration of the flights was coming down to around 45 min to an hour and then boom. Out of Memory and CTD. There was noticable stuttering issues happening where the 60-70 FPS I was achieving suddenly went down to 2.5!! CHOP, CHOP, CHOP, a dozen or so bad stutters and then back up to the smooth FPS. This was happening a couple of times every flight anymore.

So, now I'll take the next step and move to the latest edition of P3D v4. I'm going for a clean install and not going to mess with trying to recover anything. I have my files stored for my scenery development outside the program so that's not an issue and I'll install from the beginning and only put in what I need this time. Might actually gain some storage space back too so wish me luck.

Only negative is the time invested is thrown away and the time it takes to get the sim set up and configured, flight yoke set up, etc. Oh well, I can always ask for help here right? There are others that have also taken the plunge so I'll be asking for help I'm sure.

Here goes!!

Misty Flying Club and Multi Player / Tour Aircraft Limitations
« on: March 28, 2018, 05:54:01 PM »
Hello,

How can I do the following? I don't fly C-47's, DC-3's etc. But I like the tour for the short fields that requires those. Is there any other way to do that tour if I wanted to do the flights for Misty Flying Club in a 185, Cub, etc.?

Misty Flying Club and Multi Player / I need help with this
« on: March 23, 2018, 10:30:23 AM »
Unable to get the Kcars program to work for me and MFC. HELP!!

So, I click on the Cigar box icon. It shows a small window with my MFC Pilot ID and Password. I saved those into the program on first install. But now when I start Cigar Box (V1.1.2.0) , I get "Login Connection error" The request was aborted. The connection was closed unexpectedly.

Okay, what are the work flow steps to actually participate in MFC? Maybe I'm doing something that needs to happen after I'm sitting in the aircraft? If there are clear directions that actually show a step by step plan on what to do, please let me know because I'm confused obviously. And concerning how to make these multiple processes clear needs to be a big help for people like me that aren't so proficient with multiplayer TBH. Probably a reason why I've never really taken a great fancy to this element of the sim before unless it's explained where I actually can grasp the process.

So, Should I start P3D first? Then what? Kcars? Discord? FSCloud? Somethings not right and I know it's early in the process but if I'm going to participate, I need to know what to do? I want to take part but
I'm losing patience.

General Discussion / Keep Spud in your thoughts
« on: January 22, 2018, 01:56:12 PM »
Folks,

We've heard back from "Spud" who's been MIA recently. He's dealing with some health concerns and I just wanted to ask that you all send some positive vibes his way.

We're here for you Spud so whenever you're up to it, there's a table and a cold one on stand by at "Misty's"
