Misty's Place / Magic Bus removed
« on: June 20, 2020, 12:40:19 PM »
we all know our magic bus scenery along the BWEP pipeline.

The scene is based on the Realworld  famos magic bus which was home for Several months for a hiker. Sadly later he was found dead there…his story was the base for a book and an movie, both known as Into the Wild.

Now alaskan authorities did the remove the bus as slingload via an alaskan air national guard CH47 helicopter.

Prepar3D-Version 5 / V5 Vehicle preview black on startup
« on: May 12, 2020, 03:42:48 PM »
When I start v5 the vehicle preview stays default vehicle is the LM F-35 titled above.
Calling up the vehicle window after clicking on the Change Vehicle button the 3D model of the F35 is shoen correct in the respective window there.
When switching back to start up screen, no matter via pressing OK or Cancel, then the F35 3D model is shown correct in the vehicle preview window in startup screen.

In previous versions of P3d the vehicle preview window on startup screen always showed the default vehicle correct when launching P3d.

I didn‘t monitor this behaviour so far.....I had this on v5 initial release and now on v5HF1.
But today I found a threat on the LM forums, some other users report the same. A solution is not offered yet.

So I wondered if the vehicle preview works correct on your system when launching P3dv5?

Prepar3D-Version 5 / AI Global Ship Traffic v2 in P3dv5
« on: April 25, 2020, 02:29:39 PM »
today I installed Henrik Nielsen AI Ship Traffic v2 package in P3dv5, and yes I did it with xml-method. :)

First impression, seems to work good. The waters around Ketchikan are now populated with ships cruising around. Now I can do again one of my favorite activities....ship and boat spotting via Flir/TV pod in my helo.

Read a threat on avsim indicating, that v5 wakes could produce up and down bumpings of ships in high wakes far I jaust flown in fair weather conditions so can‘t confirm this issue.

Prepar3D-Version 5 / VR in P3dv5
« on: April 20, 2020, 04:01:06 PM »
here are some experiences with P3dv5 in VR. I‘m using the HTC Vive Pro.

First, the performance increase in v5 is really noticable compared to v4.5 HF2, which I still have installed on my flightsim PC.
Flying in VR mode at PF20 and in Ketchikan area in general was really demanding for v4.x in my system, which is not state of the art after 3 1/2 years but I plan updating to new system anyway this summer.
There have always been stutterings in VR at they3 locations, so it was always far away from smooth flying.
In v5 with the same scenery addons installed and the same sim settings applied, it is really a new experience.
It is now really a smooth flying experience. Some stutters do still happen, but in general it is definitly a new experience. So after these first days of flying there‘s huge potential in this new P3d version regarding VR.
So far the good things I have discovered.

The downside is, there are several issues not only with v5 in general but also in VR mode.
1. there was a heavy jittering in VR which caused nausea and headaches after a few minutes of wearing the HMD. This issue is already fixed. LM offers a hotfix for download.
2. water reflections Of clouds generate issues in VR when flying over large water bodies like RTMM areas. It seems that this effects are generated wrong in the two lenses of the HMD. It is important to know that these rendering issues do not only produce bad graphics. VR mode generates a 3D effect on the lenses. If the produced graphics on the lenses are not synchronized the right way it‘s hard for the brain to deal with the 3D effect which leads to nausea and headaches.
The issue is not yet solved. I had to disable water reflections till a fix is avaible.
3. In VR mode it is possible to activate 2D panels like the atc panel or other panels like gps and third party gauges like rxp GTN 750. These panels can be placed free in the 3D environment in the virtual cockpit. This allows them placing over 3Dpanels like the main panel or center panel as being in their correct planar orientation. This is a great features and is possible since v4.1 or 4.2. In v5 the feature still exists, but gauges implemented buttons are no more clickable......LM has promised fixing this soon.....but this really sucks, because I think it‘s a sign for poor quality control before release of the software.
4. the mouse pointer in VR shows sometimes bad habits and centers it position to middle of field of view when pressing right mouse button. This happens random.
5. CDT‘s do happen again.......I remember them in v4.1 and v4.2 when flying in demanding areas. Loading times of he“vy scenery produced CDT‘s. In later v4.x versions this was Completly resolved. I can not remember having these in v4.5 HF2.

So there is still a way to go for v5....... I really hope LM get the VR mode working stable.

I fly exclusively in VR since P3dv4.0 now. Especially flying helicopters in VR is a immersive experience, I can‘t imagine doing again in front of a 2D screen.

As I said at the beginning....there‘s huge potential in v5 VR mode!

Prepar3D-Version 4 / P3dv4.5 hotfix3 released
« on: April 15, 2020, 11:58:56 AM »
For those who do not plan updating to p3dv5... LM also released hotfix 3 for P3dv4.5.
That‘s interesting....didn‘t think they do un update when a new v5 is released.
Maybe they forgot releasing the hotfix earlier?

Here‘s the link to LM‘s announcement:

General Discussion / P3dv5 is released......
« on: April 14, 2020, 04:07:51 PM »
but the server seems to be down.... can‘t access to LM‘s p3d website.

A first search on orbx brought me to this..

the good news...... most of the orbx titles seems to compatible wit p3dv5 as all our required stuff for RTMM misty areas.
But orbx vector us not planned to be updated. Reason is stated in the Link above.
This could address the BWEP project?

Misty's Place / P3dv4 Moving Map VFR gauge
« on: March 16, 2020, 05:07:52 PM »
I‘m looking for a moving map gauge for vfr sectional charts in P3dv4.5.

There are certain flight planing software released with a moving map function. But they all work outside the simulator. I‘m looking for a moving map that can be installed as a gauge in P3dv4. In this way it is displayed in VR mode. FSMap was perfect in the past but it‘s running only in FSX and there‘s no update for P3dv4.

Does anybody know an alternative to FSMap payware or freeware?
Any help is apprecheated.....

It‘s the Sikorsky S76A by Nemeth Designs.....The S76 is a real nice looking machine I aleas loved.
Haven‘t purchased it yet, but will do for sure.
If it’s nice to fly, I could imagine tthe S76 in BWEP vip transport livery or in RTMM medical
